- I teach lessons and perform live music in and around San Diego CA. Sometimes I even make money doing it!
yes, but this means the cabs are in series doesnt it? so the impedance would be 16 ohms, and 4 ohm cabs are too expensive 4 me
Great question! It’s been answered correctly, just to clarify, most Modern bass cabs are wired with 2 or more PARALLEL jacks on back precisely for this purpose. 2 outputs from an amp should not be necessary, and is not terribly common on small amps. Many old or very cheap cabs may only have one input though, so it’s worth confirming.
I seem to recall an instance on this page of series jacks in the back of a cab, but there’s a good chance that person might’ve had no idea what they were talking about . I have never once come across a cabinet with series Jacks, and if someone modified one for god knows what reason, it would be cruel and unusual not to tell a buyer.
At any rate, I just hate lugging around 410s, so I’m a compact stack guy myself (usually 2 Bag End 15’s). Those use speakon cables with an unusual wiring protocol, but I do run them in parallel all the time.
