I like this book because it pokes gentle fun at Hallmark Christmas movies. It is part of series about an amateur detective who can communicate mentally with his
dog.

Outside Christmas lights go up around now, i.e. before snow accumulation makes it treacherous to be on the ladder. BUT we don't turn them on before the (to us) appropriate time.

Not a church follower anymore but we still use church calendar references where useful. Decorations up/lights on at the beginning of Advent, decorations down/lights off on Twelfth Night. This year that is December 1st to January 5th.

Strictly speaking for me, bassdude51................the only Xmas movie worth watching is......................

Which is a movie more about getting a B B gun than anything else. Excellent movie! Watch it any time of the year!

Plus the movie was actually shot in The filming location of A Christmas Story is located at 3159 West 11th Street, Cleveland, Ohio. (My home State!)

Have you seen this?(wait for it)..,

COVID changed the game a bit. Folks kept their holiday lights going well into March and April and with all the isolation, most felt it was a welcome thing.

I've never binged on Xmas movies and am generally indifferent to them. I first saw It's A Wonderful Life in 1972 when it had yet to be widely rediscovered, so I don't even think of it as a holiday film.

I will have no truck with Hallmark Channel holiday rom coms where the stumbling couples end their trail of misunderstandings over cocoa in cozy sweaters.

I've come to have no interest in Xmas jazz records. It was intriguing listening to Dexter Gordon play God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen many years ago, but the whole act has gotten really tired and predictable. Arrangers have pretty much reached the limit of what Adam Neely would consider to be clever reharmonizations.

Looks like a clear majority of us wait until after Thanksgiving to start all the Christmas stuff. As for me, my outside light went up this week but I don't turn them on every night. The fake tree will go up after Thanksgiving, mostly because we are going to have family over on that day and need all the room we can get. Already watched some Christmas movies. I don't really have any rules for Christmas. We have traditions like getting together and having a fake snowball fight and those things are good for us. Rules is another story and those can cause friction. It's great we can all celebrate, or not, in the way we choose.

When we did the whole decoration thing everything went up the weekend after Thanksgiving and came down the weekend after New Year's.
We got 2 younger cats at one point and the inside stopped getting decorated at all. There are ways to decorate in cat proof ways but it just wasn't that important to us. And it's just us.
Then when I reached a point that getting on a ladder was not happening the outside lights ceased.
Christmas movies are acceptable any time. There's one channel that has Christmas movies in July and we watch some then.

Peppermint choco creamer beats pumpkin spice creamer. But I drink my coffee black, however a cuppa foo-foo coffee happens, rarely, but it happens.
EXACTLY THIS for me, too. And I don't ever confess my foo-foo indulgence to my family. They'd hassle me for the rest of my life.
As for when Christmas decorations go up.... well, they used to go up after Dec 5th (youngest son's birthday) and down before Dec 31st (daughter's birthday).

Holiday Inn, White Christmas, occasionally It's a wonderful Life, The Christmas Chronicles (and version 2), A Christmas Story, and last year we watched VIolent Night, which was better than I expected. Our daughters (35 and 36) assert that Die Hard and the sequels are Christmas movies.

I light up the place after Thanksgiving, but I limit it to the rain gutters at 8 feet off the ground and my wife likes to supervise.

Depends on the movie: Elf and Die Hard (it IS a Christmas movie) can be watched year round. A Christmas Story and the Grinch can be watched starting the week before Christmas. Most other Christmas movies are not tolerated. Hallmark Christmas movies are strictly forbidden.

I'm loving the Anti-Hallmark hate speech

A few of my neighbors put up their outdoor lights this week so I went ahead and put mine up today :cigar:

I've come to have no interest in Xmas jazz records
I don't know if Kenny G counts as Jazz but for some reason this year I felt compelled to dig out his Christmas albums for the first time in decades 🤓

Already watched some Christmas movies
I watched A Charlie Brown Christmas already
