Cort GB-Modern Basses Offer New Take on Timeless Design

I really, really, really, want to love this bass. It seems Cort has made my "wish list" bass. Lightweight but without the loss of low-end punch that often results from weight saving. 22-fret roasted maple neck, with spoke trussrod adjustment, block inlays, luminlay so I can see the dots better in less than ideal light - sounds like the perfect neck to me. Hipshot Ultralites, Babicz bridge, paired with Nordstrand pickups and what appears to be well-designed preamp (with passive tone control!).

What's not to like?

I'll tell you exactly what's not to like. The fancy poplar burl top, that's what. I can just about stand the charcoal grey finish, but the natural finish is foul. It looks like it's been smeared in poo! I really hope Cort release a variation of this bass design with painted finishes as I'd love a versatile lightweight black and blocks jazz.

Like I posted earlier, I think Cort has a branding/name recognition issue. They do have good quality instruments, I have no doubts this one is top notch. However the name “Cort” for most folks brings to mind a lower end/student or beginner model class of basses. Right or wrong, if I show up to a sub gig or studio with “Cort” I will certainly get funny looks, that I’ll have to explain away…:) I hope they can overcome this…unless it’s just me?
