Craigslist Long Island Posting and Response

The ad sounds fine to me.

Most decent Bass players don't have the time to putz around rehearsing as a social event, because they are looking for other people that also "have their poopie together" and are semi-ready to gig.

Most, but not all. Some guys who were pros back in the day just wanna play.

Rehearsal is a time to get together as a collective and arrange the songs, NOT a social event to "hang out"....

In your opinion... So it's not your thing. Not sure what the problem is...

It's one step above getting together once a week just to drink beer and make noise.

I've been playing with the same guys for close to 4 years, and I think we've played 6 gigs. We've all played in serious bands. And like everybody else, I missed being signed to a major label, by "that much". We get together weekly, almost without fail, drink some beers and put on a concert level practice. The thought of having to book gigs; schlep gear; play until 2 am, then pack it all up becomes less appealing as the years go by. More power to the poster of that ad if he can find the right guy.

It's craigslist lol. But there are serious players out there that don't like to gig. There was an amazing band in MA that would only play out once a year. Every time I would end up missing it too because it was random gigs lol. But I used to listen to them practice since the rooms were not really sound proofed. They just liked to play together and they were damn good. Really wish they put out an album because their stuff was really well written. They were all students of Berkeley in Boston.

The funny (almost embarrassing) thing about this is that I contacted those people over a month ago. I'm one of those that is less concerned with gigging than I am about playing some good music (a form of practicing as far as I am concerned) - and I'd love to find a great guitarist or singer to help me when I'm recording my originals.

So I answered the ad. They said fine come on down, even sent me some other songs that they said they're doing. So, I figured if I'm going to learn a few tunes, pick ones I like. I did and they said why did I not chose the Alice In Chains and the Chilli Peppers. I said I'm not a big fan of either.

That was it, they never got back me.

So I continue to look.

That sounds like the reason this ad has apparently been running forever. I don't see anything wrong with what the ad itself lays out. But requiring (implicitly) that anyone who plays bass for them has to be a fan of certain groups is a little... finicky. And not even getting back to you, even with a "thanks but no thanks," is trashy.

Just folks that are not interested in someone who is learning bass and doesn't have sense enough to know you don't join a band in your way home from the music store with your first instrument purchase, ever.

Pretty over the top way of expressing that tho...

... we are in need of a guy who does his homework, learns the songs completely, not just parts of them...

He's got a good point here... I can't stand playing with people that don't do their homework. Rule of thumb: If you can't gig it, you don't know it.

...no gigs in sight...

I wouldn't waste my time answering this ad either. Learning songs just to meet in someone's basement every week is not something I would be remotely interested in.
