Clean, I like both Darkglass and Tech21NYC. Dirty, the BDDIv2 and VTDI beat the Microtubes by a city mile. Distortion on bass mostly sounds like crap, but if you have to use it, for gods sake, don’t use Darkglass, as they are among the worst of them for distortion.

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I agree - Darkglass is my least favorite flavor of dirt.

I didn't listen to the clips; but I've used both Darkglass and Sansamp DIs in the same live situation multiple times. I preferred the Darkglass. An Alpha/Omega in my experience.

I went the opposite way...from A/O and VMT back to SansAmp...to each his/her own :D
Actually, I found that "Eden Glowplug into SansAmp" sounds absolutely glorious for me!

I didn't really have any real criticism of the SansAmp; I just liked the Alpha/Omega more because it was mine and I used it more. The SansAmp belonged to my church and I only used it on occasional Sundays. I'm sure both are great for their uses.

I'm actually planning to run dual-preamp of RBI into A/O Ultra. I've watched a video of a guy that used a BDDI into a Microtubes X Ultra and the two together I honestly thought was pretty big sounding. I could imagine with my own tone preferences dialed in I'd like it even more than what I saw in the video. Either way, I've owned both brands separately, and loved them both

I’m a fan of both companies, have bought 4 products from each and have gotten good sounds from both. Couple odd things to mention.

The controls on sans amps are much more extreme than darkglass pedals. I’ll use the rbi as an example because unlike the bddi, flat is at noon. But I don’t cut below 10oclock or boost above 2 o’clock ever on any control including the blend. Where as on darkglass pedals it’s more of a fine adjustment and I’ll often have knobs at what look like much more extreme settings even though they don’t sound that extreme.

personally I’d rank the bddi/rbi above the b7k if you want a pre amp/di that you’re actually going to use the xlr out on. But I do really like the darkglass x and A/O pedals a lot as specialty drives. As in not drives that stay on most of the time but ones that are just used for certain sections here and there. So I’d recommend to folks that are looking for an always on pedal pre/drive/di to go with a sans amp bass driver. But if you want drives with different character for specific sections of songs the darkglass x and a/o are great.

Yep that's my plan, the SansAmp will be the main color of my tone and the AOU will be for the extra beef/dirt when needed.
