Delux Bass big muff dilemma

The mids are not a waste of time. I think it’s a good choice for either one!
But the Deluxe doesn't sound at all like the Green Russian. At least neither of mine didn't, even before they broke down. The Green Russian sounds a LOT better IMO.
And are you 100% sure the Deluxe is based on the vintage GREEN Russian? I seem to remember that the regular Bass Muff was based on the BLACK vintage Russian? I might be wrong and honestly don't know if this even applies to the Deluxe but it sounds so different to the current EHX Green Russian that if they're based on the same... one of them is very wide of the mark.
Generally a buffered pedal like a Boss Tuner would be undesirable before vintage style fuzz pedals. Some of them won't work at all, others may just sound "wrong" (which may actually produce some interesting sounds) but the results vary a LOT from pedal to pedal. For example I've gotten some REALLY cool "blown speaker" effects when placing a Tone Bender after a buffer but that was for guitar, not really suitable for bass. Other pedals like the EHX Double Muff won't work at all after a buffer. And a fuzz face will sound ok but lose touch dynamics and the ability to clean up the sound using the volume on the guitar. So it varies a LOT from pedal to pedal.
I haven't used a real woolly mammoth for years but I seem to remember some issues when placing it after other pedals. But take this with a grain of salt, it's been a while since I actually used one.
For what it's worth I currently own a Mooer Fog Bass which I believe is a clone of the woolly mammoth and that pedal does NOT work properly after other pedals. It looses a lot of high end sizzle and sounds very dull.
As for the position of the tuner, I get the impression that a lot of people seem to think the tuner must be first OR last. But if you place the tuner SECOND, after the fuzz, it won't be affected by anything else in your chain. Just switch off the fuzz before tuning. Or get a tuner with true bypass. That shouldn't affect the fuzz... at least in theory, right???

The NEW blue and white sovtek deluxe (says ‘Overdrive’ in Cyrillic on the bottom like the green does) is - this is not referring to the Deluxe BASS Big Muff.
Ah, you mean the "non-bass" Deluxe. My mistake, I was referring to the Bass Deluxe Muff. Thanks for clarifying.
The Big Bass Muff Pi is based on a "black Russian." It is not well loved here on TB.
The Deluxe Bass Big Muff is the above black Russian circuit with more twiddly bits.

Then there's the new, as of last year, Green Russian Reissue based on, you may have guessed, the green Russian circuit. The green Russian is the one that got all the big money prices and the one everyone wanted.
