Don't presume you know what I think or want.

I didn't presume anything, I just said it was interesting that people are complaining about something being too expensive: either they're interested in buying it and wish it was cheaper, or they wouldn't be buying it even it was cheaper but still feel compelled to express an opinion about the price.

Those really are the only two options.

The outcry about the pricing on these is pretty interesting to me: it seems like a lot of people really want one, they just don’t want to spend that much, and subconsciously by complaining about the cost are hoping to see it reduced.

I think that’s a fair assessment. However it isn’t that they “want” one meaning they want to buy one as much as they are attracted to certain features. I think consumers often cry “want” with no genuine intent of backing it up with a purchase. It’s more of a “I’d like those features on something I already have” or “if I was starting from scratch all over again this would be on the short list.” I did it recently with some music gear. I lusted after a few synths that were being announced at NAMM and cried “want” online. Now I’ve got the money and the products are available, yet I haven’t purchased them.

Perhaps the company has a good sense of how many people are really willing to buy one of these and where the price points are. People with a $1,000 price limit won’t buy one if it’s $1,500 or $2,500 so dropping the price isn’t a guarantee that significantly more consumers will purchase them, even at a $1,000 price drop. Few people on this forum have genuine understanding of the actual number of buyers at given price points and their ability and willingness to purchase a luxury priced item. Dropping the price might mean more sales but at a lower margin for the company, which impacts their overall operations. In the big picture they may not care about being a household name as much as controlled expansion of their product line at a rate they can manage.

These seem pretty cool, the headless design is very appealing, and I've always loved their body style. I suspect they will do pretty well with these!

I guess I fall into the first category, as I would be very compelled to buy one if the price point was closer to a Dingwall Combustion, especially given they are both made overseas and seem to be similar in build quality from what people are saying. If I was to spend $3k plus on a bass I would go for a custom Canadian Dingwall at that point. But that's just me.

Is no one surprised by the price of this bass ? It costs almost 4000€ and is made in Indonesia. I wonder how this price point is justified.
Not trying to bash anything, I’m just wondering myself.
I totally agree. Actually Strandberg sells some of his guitars for as low as 1750€. 3300€ is IMHO too much.

I know this post is a bit old, but if it's any consolation I just purchased a new Boden Prog 5 bass on Reverb during a 15% off sale for $2600 and change, which is about 2350€ today. If you can find a sale price like this, I think it makes the purchase much more palatable.

After a while seeing demos of the Strandberg Bodens out on various YouTube channels, idk why I have the urge to swap out the Nordstrand pickups for EMGs. I feel like this was a missed opportunity from strandberg. Perhaps they will make more basses with various pickups like EMG in 2020?

Why's that? Can you elaborate on your preference for EMGs over Nordstrands here?

Well I like EMGs “Sterile” sound but the Nordstrands aren’t bad either from the demos on YouTube. Idk It’s more of half curiosity/half personal taste for me but for an instrument on that price range, I don’t think I’ll do the swap :sorry:

I’m very tempted to buy one of these basses it’s different it’s new I’ve been playing my dream bass for the last ten years which is a American deluxe p bass from 2004 I’m a huge fan of norstand pickups all my basses have them they cut so nicely in the mix. I’m the kind of guy that’s a one bass and that’s it I get annoyed easily switching instruments I like to just play no bull just play. I’m kind of scared of the tuners I don’t know if it’s going to easy to tune and restring and how this bass sounds overall. I literally have been content for the last few years on my p bass and this is literally the only bass that has caught my eye on a long time. Right now I’m feeling like waiting for something else maybe a different color like a roasted maple neck and a green stain body it’s little things I don’t want to regret also a light bass is scary I own a back up p bass with empress wood and it’s extremely light and sounds very dull compared to the other bass. If anyone has played theses basses tell me what you think please I’m so tempted to buy one!

Got the chance to demo this beauty!

:)

How would you compare the feel to your Dingwall? I have a Dingwall and have seen these bodin basses but never had a chance to try one anywhere. Am a bit concerned about them being too light for me. I like to pop double stops (popping the d and g strings simultaneously) and basses that are really light tend to flop around when I do that.

I don’t have the Boden anymore, as Strandberg wanted it back after I did my videos and whatnot - but from what I can recall, the Boden was a really nice bass. Comfortable as f*** - although, I would’ve enjoyed it if the scale was a wee bit longer. 35” on the B is nice, but 37” certainly allows for more extreme tunings.

Never really got along with the pickup placement - but I am a P-bass kind of guy and always gravitate to that position when I play.

The weight of the Boden was light enough for me to be considered “a win” - my Dingwall is way lighter than my Yamaha’s, but it’s not “light enough” to be considered lightweight in comparison (if that makes any sense). That being said, you might be able to “pull it” away from you if you’re an aggressive double stopper :D
