Do you like your knobs stacked?

Stacked knobs are OK, I guess. I have them on 3 or 4 basses; they work fine. AFAIC, they just are what they are... I have no desire to replace the ones I have; nor do I want to put them on any of my other basses. I just use them. I will say that they did take some getting used to, though...

Love the stack look but I also don't care for the function.

Here's my stacks!

A P-Bass with P/J pups and stack pots for the balanced look but wired pot 1-V and pot 2-V and master tone. All pots are 500K and both pickups are Humbuckers. I never liked P/J Basses with 3 knobs!

Jazz Bass with stacks wired like my P-Bass in the pic with Volume, Volume/master Tone. However, I recently modded it for series/parallel with switch. Still stacked pots though. 500K pots too with Humbucker pups.

I don't care one way or the other about stacked knobs, but that is a lovely bass. I especially like the correct skinny ground plate running to the bridge from the pick up. Most of the Fender reissues have a huge wide thing. the originals were quite narrow as yours is. Is that typical of the Flea J bass?

Hi all here's my lovely new Jazz bass :)

I do hope you like your knobs stacked. I do.

I always wanted an early '60s Jazz bass in Oly white. Oly white + dark rosewood is for me a killer combo and I love my Tele and Strat in in this combo. The Fender early '60s stack knob replicas are really cool but only available on expensive Custom Shop guitars, e.g. the current CS Journeyman 1960 is a great bass, but very pricey. There were some AVRI Fender 62 reissues in 1982 I think. The original stack knobs were only made for about 18 months before they changed the design.

I tried the Fender Flea bass (MIM). The Flea is essentially a '61 replica relic and I thought it was absolutely perfect for me... apart from the mechanical relic work and rather grey faded pink which some love, it's fantastic. It has a really wonderful aged neck, great Fender '64 Pure Vintage pickups and proper USA CTS Stack pots.

So I waited to find one, and I bought one used last year from a West End theatre musician locally for a very good price with hard shell case - to then customise it to my needs. To be frank, once I'd got the Flea used it for some recording and it is was so good I was in two minds about breaking it up. But I didn't like the finish much and I really wanted it to be aged Oly white!

Rexter Guitars Rexter Guitars UK Custom Nitro Guitar Finishing, Bodies, Necks, Parts in the UK I have worked with a few times and Jon there does lovely thin nitro finishes the way I like them to my specs. Plus he's a lovely guy to work with. (no affil). So I did a bunch of research on the early '60s stack knobs and sent him some sample Oly White pics I liked and described the way I wanted it aged. So I commissioned a replacement body from him (the original Flea I will sell)

I really think he did a great job (as usual), a hit of yellowing, fine checking, light distressing... so this build is a Fender-Rexter bass. The body, and hand made made tort guard are Rexter Guitars, Fender Pure vintage cover parts, aged wood pull bar, natural bone nut cut cut are by my me. It plays and sounds great.

I've never been a fan of white basses, except for a certain few...this would add to my list of those few, especially with the TORT pick guard. Sweet!

Very nice bass.
I have a early 1969 Gibson EB3 so there are 2 tone, 2 volume and Veritone switch to deal with which is s lot of adjusting. Almost have to be an electrical engineer to change settings. In an instance like that I might just maybe consider a stacked system. Nah ain't worth the value drop.
I don't like it when someone stacks my knobs. Hurts.

I hate stacked pots. They turn the other one sometimes, and they break very easily.

i installed some stacked pots on my Avatar build - " Toastie 74 " ... it was kinda a PITA as far as soldering ... my big old soldering gun and crappy skills made it difficult ... have also installed V/T/V/T on others ... easier to deal with from a soldering standpoint ... just not really sure it's worth the trouble ..!!?? the standard V/V/T on a J bass seems adequate for most settings ..!?

There's a trick to keep that from happening.

Leave a bit of a gap between the lower and upper knob.

Also I leave a bit of clearance between the lower knob and control plate. Tighten each knob securely and all will rotate freely with no interactions.
Doesn't keep the top knob from breaking off if it hits something. I've broken mine 2 different times. I got rid of them. No problems since
