Double Bass double bass women

Hmm, well, I'm a left handed woman double bassist with Jewish heritage...do I get extra minority-points or something? :) Then again, I play right-handed, and I am hardly Jewish, so maybe not. Guess I only have one thing going for me.

My most recent teached played lefty and it was really odd at first when he'd try to play and example of something....totally wild.

I'm a guy who plays the DB left-handed. I guess I should worry that there's a sex change in my future.

Actually most of the left handed folks I know are FTM/X not MTF/X. A statiscally too small sample so...

Edited to say that since you likely won't get the full implication of the above joke or even the terminology, I'll boil it down to - a few of you guys should just grow up.

Hey :)

please do not be mad at pklima. He is an OK guy and I am sure it was only a not very fortunate joke.

Here, in Poland, a woman playing double bass is still a rarity and that is why I would like to write a thesis about women and double basses.

So right now I am trying to find women playing this great and beautiful instrument - solo players, leaders of groups in orchestras, composers or professors.

Malgos,

If you are interested my friend Wanda is first chair in the South Coast Symphony in Southern California. She is more known for her position in an Iron Maiden Tribute band.

If you have some questions I can forward them on to her.

well said, thesuze. It's about time some grownups wade in here. I don't tolerate intolerance. As bass players, we're the foundation of the band and we can take the role off stage also.
Brava.

I will be very grateful for any information from you.

THANK YOU :))

I wish you all the best

While they are not "rock stars" there are some really good bassists who post regularly here (I'm surprised they haven't spoken up yet).

Bassbatterie
Janette Greene
Holly Wright

There is also Jessica Gilliam-Valls who performs with Austin Symphony Orchestra and is the DB professor at Huston-Tillotson University.
