DR Strings!

BTW - DR is running a special this month for their dealers that has me filling in a lot of the gaps I've got in their products lines. Usually, I have to buy 6 of any given set to get their best pricing on that set. This month, I can buy single sets and almost get down to that price.

Take HI-BEAMs, for example: I've only been stocking 9 of the available 16 sets they offer. The ones I have not been stocking are generally unusual in some way. Like the LLR-40 set, for example. That's a 40-95 4-string set which is more light on the E-string than most folks would play. But I'm sure there are folks who dig that, so I'm going to carry them!

You can currently see all of the sets I'm adding in the "Inbound" collection on my website. Something like 15 new sets across the HI-BEAM, FAT-BEAM and LO-RIDER lines. That'll get me to having at least 1 of every available set in those product lines.

I only mention this to say: if you're a lover of some DR set of strings that I don't currently stock, please let me know what set that is! I'll happily stock any set of theirs if I'm able to get into it with just one set. I don't want to go 6 deep on all of their sets, but stocking just 1-2 sets is no problem at all.

I'll be placing my final DR order of the month tomorrow or Friday, so please chime in quickly!

I'm one of those who like the Hi-Beams 95-40. Have a set on now.

On the p-bass in your avatar? I could see that being very nice, compensating for the offset pickup placement inherent in the design of a p-bass. The pickup placement makes the E & A strings sound thicker than the D& G strings just because of where each half of the pickup is placed. So thinning out the E/A sting gauges a little bit might get them to balance better tonally with the D&G strings? Is that your rationale?

I've been jonesing for a reverse P setup for years for similar reasons. I want the E/A to cut more and the D&G to sound fatter, relative to each other. In theory, the reverse P orientation should do that. But experimenting with string gauges is certainly another rational (and less expensive) way to go.

Yes, they are on that bass. I tend to like 95-75 for that reason, I guess,,,makes sense. I wouldn't say it was my rationale, at least on a conscious level, though putting it the way you do makes sense. I have good sets of Pure Blues Victor Wooten, and SunBeams,,,just trying different sets. I do like these Hi-Beams, when I review what I've recorded. The Pure Blues are remarkable in their way, too, though they seem to be harder to get a handle on, EQ wise, with the Neural DSP Dark Glass B7K I use in Luna. The SunBeams are the most 'normal' sounding, from a nickel point of view. Love the Hi-Beams, though.
