RIO - DURAN DURAN
First a big disclaimer, i don't know theory and i'm not an experienced tabber. I picked hundreds and hundreds of songs by ears in my life but have rarely bothered to tab any. This is how i play Rio, the closest that i could pick it up proper. I'm sure there's likely mistakes, which you can feel free to point out. I just thought this might help. For one i do a heap load of fast open strings in this which for some, mainly in the verse and chorus,i suspect should actually be rhytmic ghost notes or something. I use a pick and was never good at these so i just do fast open strings, it seems to work fine. There could otherwise be mistakes i made in transcribing so if ever a note seems totally wrong, i might have entered the wrong one by mistake though i don't think so cause i double checked but who knows. Obviously, listen to song for proper rhythm of each parts.
Intro (Play four times. Personally i like to just slide on the A string to 10-11-12 instead of using the D string for that part..i like the sound of the slide, but wha-evs)
g-[---------- -------------]
d-[-------------0-5-6-7--]
a-[---7-7-0-5------------]
e-[-0---------------------]
Verses (play 1 twice then 2 then 1 twice again then 3. Do the whole thing twice. In the second verse, The patterns don't vary as much. He mainly plays part 1 and part 2 except before the chorus where he does play part 3,my opinion is he repeated 2 by mistake and they just decided to keep it. )

3 (yes, JT probably plays this at 4 and then 3 on A but i always liked to play it there instead, same thing otherwise)

Chorus (Play 1. Then 2 and 3. Then 2 again and 4. Then 2 and 3 and then 2 and 5. For the first part, i think Taylor just does an upward slide from 12 but i like to do a "round trip" slide from 5 to 12 instead. By the way, the open E at the beginning should i guess be considered the end of the verse rather than beginning of chorus. it's not slapped but it's obviously played pretty hard)

(here i'm not sure if he plays three before playing the slap at 5, it sounds just as fine skipping it)

3
(ok i just realised this part is like above, except not really because the rhythm for the last 3 notes before going in the second part of the bridge is different)

d-[----0-2-3-4--4-4-2-------------------------]

e-[--------------------------2----------------------5-----------------------------------]
5
(here i'm not sure, the slide i think is right, but the bass gets muddled in the mix and i'm not sure if he's playing 7 on the D string before he does it or if he's still playing 5 on E,in my opinion its easier to od that fast slide from 7 so halfways through the repeated note i'd say switch to an octave higher on the D like i wrote here)
g-[-----6-6-0-4----------------------------------------------------------------------------]
d-[---------------0-6-4-6-----4-4-0-2-----------------------------7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7/19\--]
a-[--4-----------------------------------0-4-2-4-------------------------------------------]
e-[--------------------------2----------------------5-5-5-5-5-5-5--------------------------]
(here's an alternate version of the end of the above,it isnt played in the song, but this is what i play instead. I like it and is a good lead in to the slide. I like to call this pattern a Mckagan as there's at least three GNR songs i know where Duff does this, minus the slide, after repeating a note for a while)
g-[---------------------------------------------]
d-[---------------------------5-6-7--7--7/19\-]
a-[----------------------5h7-------------------]
e-[-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5------------------------]
Then it goes back to chorus for a while for the outro. there MIGHT be variations there but i didn't bother checking, it fades out eventually.
There it is. Hope it helps in any way. I'll do Planet Earth some other time. Maybe tomorrow
