---------------------

I wrote a lot of this in another thread back in December but thought it deserved its own thread in case anyone was interested in ordering from them (which at this point would be impossible because of their website). It is a long read...

I own two BassBombs. One I bought off CL and the other I ordered from Tim himself. The cabs sound great. That aside...

Over the years I've seen a lot of complaints about Tim stealing money and never fulfilling orders. I never had an issue with him and received my cab more or less on time, but doing a google search for "earcandy cabs" returns a lot of negative stories.

A month or two ago I guess Tim had carpel tunnel surgery. Apparently he stopped making payments to his webhost for the website, stopped answering emails, put the company on hiatus and in the process of this never individually contacted customers with outstanding orders informing of them what was going on. He deleted everything from his facebook wall as well. More and more stories popped up on google about not receiving their money or cabs after long periods of time, and a lot of them very recent due to this string of events.

I figured he had basically disappeared, pulling a Dr. Bass but on a smaller level. But then recently the site came back on line, with Tim posting on facebook that the company was back. Here is what was on the front of the webpage, and is still there if you click on the posting.

"To the dismay of all the other “cab makers” (Company’s who order trash from china, copy trash designs and have it mass made to fit in shipping containers only to install speakers)

We are back, awaiting only 1 change to our Facility, then were going to kick ass again. We HAND make the best cabs and people who got them, know it. Company’s as described above fear it, and as they should. All the trash talk, is from a small hand full of intimidated losers who cant design (or play) their way out of a wet paper bag. We will put our Cabs up against cabs twice our size, any time, any day and cream them. We never left, we just re tooled to be more efficient, more AMERICAN made and just… MORE.

Stay tuned and rest assured, all outstanding orders will be satisfied and S__t talkers will be eating their words!

In the mean time, enjoy some pictures of the best gear ever made."

Now, let me give some background info on Tim. He was always very nice to me, but I could always tell there was something a bit... eccentric about him, aside from appearing to be a wack-job right wing bible thumper. I remember at one point on his website he wrote something like, if you play in a death metal band don't even bother contacting me about building a cab for you because that type of music is **** and not even real music!!! Which I found incredibly ironic considering he makes cabs for Killswitch Engage and A Storm of Light, with the guy from ASOL doing his graphic design. If you're going to go as far to say that death metal is **** and not real music and you won't build cabs for people who play it, is it really that far from ambient sludge metal? Anyways...

As someone who has spoken nothing but high praise for Tim, and also considering I helped give him lots of suggestions when he built the current website (which he didn't really listen to as it looks like crap, is hard to navigate, and probably deters most potential buyers), this statement he posted really irked me. Incredibly unprofessional and not what you would expect from someone who probably needs to do some PR damage control.

I wrote Tim on facebook, telling him I thought what he wrote on the main page was incredibly immature and not what I would expect from a professional business owner, and also asked if he had any plans on addressing all the claims on the internet that he has stolen money from customers. I didn't accuse him of anything, just wanted to hear his side of the story.

Facebook notified me that he wrote on my wall, but he also blocked me so I have no idea what he wrote. I tried to email him and of course his earcandy email doesn't currently work, so I wrote on the EarCandy Cabs fb page which is apparently run by his wife. My comment was deleted with no response, so I wrote that since they have no desire to respond to me I have no choice but to inform people that they should avoid doing business with them. As this page is public I have no qualms with doing a copy and paste here. Here's the response I got.

This is what you originally wrote:

"Tried to email you but apparently the email address no longer works, so here's what I sent you.

Looks like you wrote on my wall then blocked me which means I can't see what you actually wrote. Seems you took what I said personally. The paragraphs on your website's main page are incredibly immature. I thought pointing this out to you was for your best, as any potential customer will turn around and run after reading that. It's not how you conduct business, and as a supposedly devout Christian I am shocked to see such a thing written by you.

And I was not accusing you of stealing money, simply asking if you planned on addressing the claims you had. It is not hard to find these claims, as searching earcandy cabs on google shows half the results as forum threads describing bad experiences with you."

You received your EarCandy Bassbomb 2x12V Diablo cabinet & your Bassbomb 2x12 Cabby cabinet long ago without any complaints about either one. We recognized your band, added it to EarCandy Radio, liked your band page & added it to our favorite’s page for a long time. Obviously we have a difference of opinion – that happens. We find nothing wrong with what is posted on our website. Picking fights with someone for no reason can also be viewed as incredibly immature. You were confrontationally stalking Tim’s personal page & he has a right to un-friend those who act disrespectful to him. He does not run this page.

I have read your emails in regards to having EarCandy set your band up for gigs that you would prefer to have. Hire a Booking Agent – we make cabinets & gear. You wasted our time trying to get more than gear from us. Thanks for giving us such sound business advice. You should apply all of your great business knowledge to getting your band gigs, and maybe consider leaving the “pointing things out to people for their best interest” for your children / band mates. Also, is it really your duty or do you simply have too much time on your hands? It clearly states on the website memo you are so upset about that “All outstanding orders will be satisfied,” not that it has anything to do with you or anything you ordered from us. Thank You.

and here is my response...

"As a supporting customer I feel it is my right to question the image being portrayed by a company I support. I asked a simple question, and instead of getting a response, I can only imagine what Tim wrote on my wall before blocking me. Sorry, one wall post is not stalking.

You are severely mistaken, as I have never spoken to you in my life or asked EarCandy for any help in getting gigs. I also only ordered one cabinet from you, not two. You are simply making things up at this point. All the claims that Tim has stolen money are not just in the immediate past, but go back several years. Putting "all outstanding orders will be satisfied" on your website does not magically make this all ok. If BP doesn't spill oil in my back yard, I can still be displeased that they've spilled it somewhere else.

I simply expressed my displeasure at the message being conveyed by the website, especially from such a self-proclaimed Christian, and wanted to hear Tim's side of the story. Instead he reacted like a 5 year old. I thought after supporting the company and assisting with the website that I would at least get an answer, but apparently not. I do feel a loyalty to the bass community that I should tell them to stay away, but I think a simple google of "earcandy cabs" is enough to deter most."

As I said, I wrote that back in December. I checked their page today (they took down the old page and replaced it with a new one, which is just an image and has no information about their cabs). I noticed there is now text scrolling across the bottom.

There are individuals who are out to smear our reputation, these folks simply have their panties in a bunch because they were told " We are not interested in building for you " They are clueless, pushy unprofessional want to be's. We have over 7 thousand satisfied clients and are still building Cabs, the PROPER way, in AMERICA. To Inquire about a cab build email " [email protected] " Thank you and GOD BLESS.

This guy is a nut. There are people out there that paid Tim a year ago and in some case several years ago and are still awaiting a cab or a refund. He continues to advertise he is taking new orders when there is a lot of unfinished business. Avoid this guy at all costs.

And here we go with another Dr. BassBombs.

Edit:

That scrolling message at the bottom of their site is horrid. Good Grief.

I had a couple cabs- a bass bomb and an ozlo.
Both chuffed so badly and had so many air leaks I had to sell them. The biggest issue ime was the port size, too small.
Great idea, but the execution was not up to snuff.
I bought the ozlo new (at a discount), and contacted Tim about the issues. He did attempt to help me out, and was a pleasure to deal with actually.
Unfortunately, you can't fix a faulty design.
These cabs do work for a lot of people but i'm one of those folks that just wants to hear the notes, not the cab huffing and puffing.
The buyers were quite happy.
Just thought i'd share my experience.
The pic is from recording the noises to send to Tim, thus the mic placement.

Well, I looked at the site. Can't see a cab, buy a csb...nothing. Did see the "everybody's out to ge me" message.

Indeed...sounds like a whack job. Any idea how many people are awaiting orders or for how long? Saw a review that stated since July but I didn't dig that deep.

Hah an Ozlo. I saw one of those at Atomic Music in Beltsville, MD. Aren't the speakers made of Kevlar and the cab weighs like 100 lbs?

I never had any audio issues, but our styles differ with mine involving lots of loud fuzz :) D.A.R.K., are you in the Rockville area? If so I was likely the one that purchased the cab from you, as it looks a lot like mine.

I'm a fuzz-a-holic myself! But when I want clean, I want clean...
The ozlo speakers were eminence, and it did go low, low, low!
Great for f# and sub effects, just not clean enough.
And did weight a ton... I ended up selling the ozlo without speakers as it was shipped. I remember now, the bomb was traded for a pair of 1x10's. I was in nova, in baltimore now.
The bomb was traded to a fellow with a v4b, and it did sound great with a tube head. Was that you?

I do remember one of their shills posting about how his ear candy 212 filled a football stadium with low end. Of course, this was also the same guy who was bragging about his immense bass collection and his father's friendship with Flea.

I remember that kid! He will always be an anchor around EarCandy's feet here at TB.

I wrote off EarCandy the minute I read their ridiculous cab and materials descriptions...and then when half the dudes who posted about them were either 12 years old or mentally stunted cranks.

Hopefully, I'm included in the other half. LOL.

As some of you know, several years ago I ordered a new BassBomb from Tim. It was supposed to take one month for the build. It ended up taking five. The cab sounded acceptable and served its purpose for the time I owned it. The OP is doing the right thing in warning the talkbass community about these developments, IMO. Now that I have gained a wee bit more knowledge regarding cab design I can't foresee ever owning another 'CandyCab'. There are so many other superior choices available.

Wow.. I really appreciate all the hard work you went through to post all this info. I'll just keep on loving all my Mesa gear..
Thank you again... This is the kind of help that reaches out to the Bass community and saves people from the potential nightmares of doing business with bad company's. Its so clear to me after reading all of their responses to you, that this company is concealing some dark secrets...

This point is so valid, I think it bears repeating....:D

Ya, good to steer clear of stuff like that, and thanks for the heads up.
