I might expand my search to old mij copies too, sometimes they can be found at semi reasonable prices
I've drooled over your collection many times. I'm very envious. So many Thunderbirds, just not enough time everyday to play them all....................
On a more serious note, the Epiphone "Classic" is a great first Thunderbird, highly recommended!
Wow, that is one pretty bass. Gibson pups is definitely a plus.View attachment 1040196 Classic IV is a killer! Fun to play, Gibson pups and the white one is off the hook. Inexpensive, I believe I paid $500?
I love old MIJ stuff, so I will definitely keep those in mind. Only problem is finding one that doesn't cost close to a real Gibson. I'm running to the same problem in my hunt for a Ric. Some of the MIJ copies go for crazy money. Not like they're not nice instruments, though.I might expand my search to old mij copies too, sometimes they can be found at semi reasonable prices
You would be well-advised to wait until summer as Epiphone let us know at NAMM that SOMEONE FINALLY LISTENED TO T-BIRD lovers and they've sort-of cloned the early 60's ones. Had 60's ones and all the ones after. 60's ones are the best, period....just don't let them(or any other thin-necked non-maple neck) fall over.
Here's what Epi says they're bringing:

Well, it was a custom decal, very good quality, but...Iron cross was from the Nikki sixx right?

I actually prefer the recent neck-through Epis to the recent Gibsons. The latter are uncomfortable for me.Gibson Custom 91 T-birrd
Has pickups from a 68 bird. Only 5 made. 1 lost in a movie set fire. One refinished. Then there...
Love t-birds. They're a different beast. The sound is a unique ferocious growl. The feel is a different bird altogether. I don't think Epi's compare (all of the one's i've played were subpar at best..)
As far as a Gib USA goth-Nikki Sixx model. (not a fan of..)
I didn't realize they made the Goth ones in a burst. Good to know. Thanks!
Great info-thanks for clearing that up!With the Goths... there are Goths and there are Blackbirds. Not quite the same.
Epi Goths have 3 controls and a XII on the twelfth fret, no other fret markings and a bird on the pickguard.
The Black Blackbirds have iron cross fret markings, a 'finger thingy' behind the bridge and a bird with iron cross on the pg. pickguards are easy to change though.
The not black Blackbird / Sixx tribute has a different top and a signature pickguard I think.
Agreed, if nothing else, they are very cool looking basses.I think they look pretty cool, but that's all I can say.
