The Tonerider P is an excellent pup, especially for the money. I love 'em
As I stated above, I absolutely love the stock MIC Classic Vibe pickups. It was very strongly rumored that those pickups were made by tonerider. The Tonerider P is an excellent pup, especially for the money. I love 'em
I went the other way, from QPs to Geezers... they brought a couple of old Ps back to life, and man do I love the whole solderless thing. Jimmy M helped me decide on trying them out, and I’m sure glad I did.I bought the Geezers and tried them out for several weeks, then swapped them out for the Quarter Pounders. I sold the Geezers immediately and haven’t looked back... that’s been a few years now.
FWIW, I also have 2 Classic vibe Squier P basses both with stock pickups, and I like the sound.
I think you really just have to experiment and see what works. You can’t go wrong with any of the pickups you mentioned.
Nice ! I’ve been gigging a Ray34, but I have to say it’s hard to beat a good Precision Bass tone .Pickup for cover band; yes go with the EMG Geezer.
Not too anything, it's just right in the mix, simple, good price, easy to install, used by pros, just a good pickup that has been around for years now and is proven to work well.
I've started using a Fender Parts P-bass with the Geezer over the past 6 months in my cover band playing a few times per month; used my Music Man USA Sterling H and 5h for yeas, and don't miss them at all tone/sound wise. I tune BEAD on p-bass 4 string; no muddy ness, just get the right strings and nut set up, so for drop tuning the EMG Geezer works well.
I also have a Yamaha Attitude II bass with stock pickups. I did a blindfold test with some bass player friends where they listened to each of the basses mentioned. They all picked the stock Yamaha pickups as the best overall.
I think that was his thing, DiMarzio pickups, and yes I do remember him saying Yamaha uses DiMarzio in them.Doesn't the Attitude 2 have Dimarzios in it? I could have swore it did but I don't own one to check offhand.
