Eminence or Celestion?

Yeah--the 3015 lf is not so good on it's own. Thanks, Andy---I like the sound of the Celestions but they didn't have drivers to compete with the Eminence. Maybe their sub drivers have the xmax, but the drivers with any mids were pretty lacking in the xmax department. I will check with them as far as custom drivers, but I assume that their minimums might be to high for me. I use all custom Eminence drivers---they've been great to work with and their minimums don't break the bank.

I'm pretty sure they measure XMAX differently than Eminence. Dave at RevSound has some sort of long standing relationship with their engineering department - you should give him a call and chat about them :). I have a pair of 25 pound RS115X bass cabs (#1 and #3 built I think) that double as subs, not displacement limited above 38 Hz I believe. Uses the BN15-400X driver - powered at 400 wrms each in sub duty.

First order of business... Welcome to TB.

And expect things to get out of control a bit. Probably in a good crazy way. We're all just a bit off center around here.
We like to argue, have fun, and go off the rails now and then. Just thought I'd warn you.

Anyway, I hope you find out what your looking for.

Who’s off center? Argue? What!! As long as you agree with me there’s no problem!:)

Celestion measures xmax by mechanical measurement, Eminence at 10% THD, so the Eminence measurement is a bit higher, maybe 20%. Still, no Celestion comes close to the 3015LF. The 3015LF mechanical xmax is about 8mm, the BN15-400X is 4mm. That makes the Celestion displacement limited to maybe 150 watts, depending on the cab size and tuning. There are other issues with the Celestion too, especially the high Qts at 0.52, which gives a upper bass peak and weak deep bass. That can be a good feature for a bass cab, especially one driven with a tube amp, but I wouldn't use it for a sub.
Even the drivers marketed by Celestion for PA don't have the xmax of the 3015LF, but that's not where their market is. They have substantial competition in the UK from a half dozen UK and European driver companies, so they're probably wise to concentrate on the musical instrument niche.

Where did you get that information from? I have never seen the voice-coil winding height and air gap depth of these Kappalite drivers. I have measured several pictures of 3015LF recone kit pictures and the voice-coil length is approx 20mm. If that's correct then e.g. a Celestion NTR15-3018E may have an xmax that could be approx the same as the 3015LF.

Agreed, plus there are some sensitivity and voicing advantages as well (assuming these are important to the application)

My old Traynor cab has an eminence legend cb158 (okay I forget the exact code but it's the 8 ohm ceramic model). It's a great driver in that big-ish sealed box, pumps a lot of bass, but could be a bit brighter for my tastes. I'd imagine maybe the eminence is a bit grindier, but I'm not about to spend money to find out.

Hi, I was looking for drivers to put in my 2X15 DIY cab project and I've found this:

PULSE15

The Pulse 15 looks like a very good standalone (40Hz to 3.5 kHz) and it’s not pricey. Does anyone know this driver? I’m not sure, but I think the Pulse series has been released in 2016, so there are not a lot of reviews for this Celestion speaker.

What did your software modeling of it in your proposed cab tell you?
Hi Rick, I’m not at home this weekend, so I can’t do it now. I want a cab voiced like the SVT 115. I’m also considering the Eminence DeltaA. I have a max budget of 130$ per driver and the weigh is also considered. The Pulse seems to have a more solid extension in the low range.

Pulse 15: 35.7 Hz vs Eminence: 40Hz

Pulse 15: Xmax 4.75mm vs Eminence: 2.7

My amp is the subway D800+, so I need 400 watts per driver.

Where are you getting the 37.5 Hz versus 40 Hz? Not that you can hear 2.5 Hz anyway. I agree that the Delta 15 xmax makes it barely usable, unless it's with a 30 watt amp. As for the voicing there's no way to know that without seeing an SPL chart for the SVT.
