Ernie Ball Cobalt Flatwound for my 5 - 2 sets break the D string this week!

Even though Amazon exchanged them. Ernie Ball sent me a set of these after I informed them of the problem.

Way to go Ernie Ball! That’s what I call customer service!

I would rather have these for myself than the Cobalt Flats. I actually like flats that sound like flats instead of flats that are designed to sound like rounds. ;)

I love the sound of Chromes. I’ll give these a try and hopefully I like them but I am not sure if I’ll ever give the Cobalts another try.

In terms of both tone and feel, these regular EB Flats are the closest thing to the Chromes. So, you will probably like them better than the Cobalts.

Besides, these regular ones don't break the way the Cobalts do.

Im fairly new to bass, never changed my strings but i wanted to try some flatwounds... These have been giving me nothing but greif, ive gone through 2 packs in less than a month. The D and G string keep breaking. I just broke BOTH of them trying to get back to standard tuning from E flat, and I'm pissed. I love the way they sound/play, but i cant deal with their fragility. Will i face the same problem with other kinds of ernie ball flatwounds?

I nixed Ernie Ball all together. . D'addario Chromes is where I'm at for the long haul

I thought I had found my true love  with t these strings and then the D strings started breaking; 2 while being put on, 1 broke in the middle of the winding as I was loosening it to adjust the saddle.

I really liked the sound and LOVED the feel but I'll never buy Ernie Ball again.

Why would "old stock" be more prone to break? Did Ernie Ball have some batches known to be bad? Otherwise, an "old" string sitting in a stock room for a year, shouldn't be more prone to breakage than a "new" string, more recently manufactured.

Sad to hear that.....

I use Cobalt flat , I only meet a rusty issue on my first pack. But never break the D string even how many time I take in/take off from my bass.
Plus some of my bassist friend following me to use Cobalt flat but still no string breaking issue.

I am still highly recommend this cobalt flat to everyone.
