Fearful vs Fearless?

I did a search, and I only found one thread that spoke to my question...

Is the only real difference that the Fearful can be built by anyone, and the Fearless only by authorized dealers?

Is there any other differences? I'm sure the price is higher for a Fearless, but is that the only real difference?

Different crossovers, different drivers, different cab dimensions and formats, different cosmetics.

The Fearless cabs are tuned slightly differently and in single woofer configurations off a tiltback option. They are also a little smaller and lighter and offer dedicated crossover designs. I'm sure others will reply with more specifics or info I've left out. You can go to their website or ask questions on the Facebook pages.

So the only thing in common is FEAR itself.

The woofers and the general concept are the same, but the rest of the details are a bit different.

From what I've gathered, the proprietary "less" design is a more refined and tweaked version of the "ful" cabs which Greenboy freely shares the specs and design of.

If you want what Greenboy condiders its absolute best design to date, you purchase a fearless cab. If you just want a very good sounding Greenboy designed cab, you purchase or build yourself a fearful.

FWIW I've heard both versions at different times - and they're both really beautiful sounding bass cabs. I never got the chance to do a side-by-side comparison however, so I don't know if I'd find one that much better than the other. I suspect that the bass, the amp, and the player's technique would probably have a lot to do with how it ultimately sounded. So the only way to know which is "better" - or if Greenboy will even work for your sound at all - is to try one. Not any easy thing to do since they're pretty much built to order.

I've actually tried one this past weekend, and my Fearless F112 is being built as we speak. I was able to try an F110 and F112 side by side. They both sounded amazing, but the cost and weight savings for the 110 wasn't enough to sway me. I should have mine in a couple weeks.

I have played pretty much all of greenboy's designs save a couple that I have not been able to get my hands on. Do you have specific questions about any of them?
No I was pretty much just wondering the difference between FearFUL and FearLESS. I gues they are pretty much the same came with slightly different components. Plus the LESS seems to have the wedge design.

I'd be inclined to buy rather than build one if I decided to get one. And for the price differential I'd also most likely just get the top shelf model since the entry cost to buy or build any Greenboy cab is high enough that a few extra hundred isn't that important (to me) at that point. If I was a little short I'd just wait and save up enough money before pulling the trigger.

Tonally they are different, that is a sure thing. Which is better for you, is up to you. The woofers are tuned differently, and they use different mid drivers, and different cross overs.

That's why I went to Scabbey Road and had mine custom built. I'm considering getting a cloth grill instead of the standard metal. Not sure on that yet.

Maybe something like this.

If I'm going to be roading a cab a lot, I've grown to prefer a metal grill that isn't purely there for cosmetics. The metal grills I've seen on other fearLESS cabs did look nice enough. I was told they actually have their own proprietary metal grill that offers superior transparency, although I never bothered to find out of that were true. You could always ask them.

See I am the only person who touches my gear, so I'm not too worried about the fabric grill.

Yeah. But you're not going to be the idiot that tosses a bottle or chair at it, or tips over a mike stand, or picks up a stand and steps back putting the base through the grill and possibly damage a driver either.

But like everything, YMMV. I personally don't like the look of metal grills. That said, if I'm roading something a lot, I've come to appreciate their practicality. (I always make provisions for worst case because I'm not a particularly lucky individual.)

Actually my guy at Scabbey Road said that he would just wrap the metal grill in whatever cloth I desired. Problem solved.

Scabbey is awesome. Anyone here in the NE who wants one of these cabs should check him out. Really good dude.

Fearless is more refined. Technically speaking, it's just better than the Fearful's. But the fearful is a really damn good cab too. If you want one built for you, I'd go fearless, if you want to DIY, and save a little scratch, fearful is the only way to go.

This is what I'd do. But then, I'm the only one who handles my gear, so I know what it has to go through...and it's been through a lot in the years since I've been fEARfuling. My stuff has warwounds to spare.
