Fender Squier Sonic Series

That wasn't the only pickguard I received today. I got this gold anodized Precision pickguard.

I do like it, much more than the solid white pickguard.

My other thought for this one would be a Mint Green pickguard. I put one on my Surf Green Bullet Tele.

View attachment 5299609 It's difficult to capture true shades of these light green. The pickguard does look more green in person.

This is the P bass I was going to put the bridge cover on. I probably will get another one to put on it. I also have a thumb rest to install, when I get around to it. I may put it on the Bronco and put one on this bass at a later time, in case I decide to put a mint green one on it.
Man I really like the mint on surf green. I love Teles.

It looks great with the anodized gold! I might try that out on my surf green. For now I’ve got the anodized black which I like, but if I feel like changing it up, the gold may have to be the way to go.
I probably will stay with the gold, I was just thrown off as it wasn't as a light of a shade as on my Donner P, which is a faux anodized brushed gold. It looks good, just a lighter shade.

On yours, I think a maple neck with black block markers would look great. A 70's Jazz neck, but remove the Jazz Bass from the headstock.

I finally got my Dark Red Tortoise custom made pickguard from earlpilanz (eBay). I've seen black basses/guitars with the dark brown, but I thought they were too dark. The vintage red was too bright, so I went with this shade. I installed it along with a bridge cover I got for my Sonic P. I thought it looked good on the Bronco, adding to the vintage styling look of it.

It still sounds just as good, just looks cooler doing it.

Where’d you get that bridge cover?/ Looks killer!

I got it from this Reverb retailer with a few other parts: Fender American Vintage Precision Bass Bridge Cover Chrome. I think it might have been his last one. I've seen them on other dealers on Reverb, eBay and Amazon. Some versions are longer than others, this is one of the shorter versions. The ad copy usually doesn't say, but you can usually tell by the pictures. This one didn't come with screws, but I had some pickguard screws that I used.

Decided to try out new strings (Deep Talkin' Bass 49-109) on my Sonic Bronco as a sort-of trial for the sound of the same on my also single coil CV early 50s.

Tested the sound the Bronco made before a proper setup (tomorrow? I hate doing intonation) and with the strings still brand new and not run in. Not much bass thud through my Rumble 100 whatever I did with the combo's EQ or the tone control, so not a success that way (DTBs work well for that on an old Squier P) , but with the Rumble's EQ on neutral and the Bronco's tone fully over to the right I got a guitar-like mellow tone that sat well with my blues 'singing' in dining room acoustics. I think this will be a one-trick pony for that sort of stuff, but it's a trick I like. :D

Are you using the all straight up (12 o'clock) or the true flat of 10, 2, 2, 10?

Granted I use a different pickup (Roswell single coil 51 P, 9KΩ, Alnico 5) and it has plenty of punch. I almost sounds like a chorus effect if I hit it hard.

All tone controls in the 'middle' detents. Might try your settings, though.
Thanks.

Tried your recipe in between tweaking the truss rod, and it was even better. Many thanks!

Also, the truss rod was a dream to turn - much less effort than some others I've fought with, and it came into 0.015 spec. very easily.

That's what I run on both my R40 and R200 Head (tweaked to taste and room). The stock tone stack is mid scooped and bass heavy. I was meh with the sound of my R40, until I found this EQ setting.

From the Fender Rumble Wiki Page, frequency specs and true flat settings.

My other brand of amp are Ashdown (Studio 8, Five 15 & MAG300), which are the opposite with a very mid heavy tone. The mids/low mids are so heavy it can sound muddy when played alone. But, they do sound much better in a mix, cuts through nicely.

Still grateful, but it doesn't sound as good on my bedroom (!) Vox VX50 so I'm thinking of replacing that with a smaller Rumble if the tone's going to be like the 100.

So, I think the mods are done to my Indonesian Sonic Tractor build. The final pice of the puzzle was to upgrade the bridge. The OEM one wasn't awful, but I have heard a lot of good things about the Hipshot KickAss, so I found one for the right price, and gave it a go.

The install was a breeze, and I loved all the adjustability options. It made the setup simple, and the action is super low with no buzzing, and the intonation is spot on. Overall, the bridge just has a real quality feel to it. I might find myself buying some more of these for my other Fenders!

I installed the Artec Alnico 5 Precision Bass Pickups in my Sonic P. They're a great match with the LaBella Flats. They hve a much warmer, mellower tone. The highs are more rounded out and smoother. Overall, not so harsh sounding and not overdriving the preamps that are just right with my other modest pickups are.

I also have the chrome bridge cover, thumb rest and Surf Green rubber strap locks installed. Pics to follow when time allows.

Rumbles are really good, you can't go wrong with them. I have the LT25 for home practice and it's just great.

Also I don't get your bass issue with Bronco and La Bella Deep Talkin flats - I have the same setup and they boom like hell. Although I play with fingers only.

So I played the new Sonic Squier Precision where I work (The House of Guitars) and I have to say I am really impressed. Nice and light and the neck is amazing, I love the 1.5 nut and the fretwork is very good.
I am always testing entry level instruments that come into the store and the Squier Sonic Precision is a bass I will feel good about putting in a players hands. I like it so much that I may bring it home but I'm resisting the urge for the moment.

How about the Bronco?
