OK. Now this may seem like science fiction but I have to remind you all that the is the 21st Century for heaven's sake. I have been playing my basses and practicing after a long hiatus and I notice that when I 'dig in' my fingertips sometimes react painfully to that, you know those kind of things that when you press on that finger too hard for even YEARS the pain comes back. Pushing too hard on a hard round wire makes the fingers hurt to the bone. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if I had learned to play bass in a formal environment instead of a flat-out crazed punk band. Here's my idea: a plastic surgeon could operate on my fingers and insert a silicone (or other medically approved substance) pad into my fingertips to absorb the crazy energy of skin and bone against harsh metal strings. What do you think? (by the way, I know this is crazy, like how Benjamin Franklin was crazy with the kite)
Opinions, the future of plastic surgery for bassists.
People who offer opinions based on 'proper' fingering techniques are excluded because it's too late. The technology is always forging ahead.
