First Set of TI Jazz Flats - NICE!

yes, i LOVE the flats! especially on the Godin.

got the TI rounds. meh, not so much. played and recorded with them.

i prefer the DR Jonas on my Jazz fretless.

i'll keep them in my string boneyard for backup.

but, again, i am SOLD on the FLATS!!!

edit... update on the rounds... sorry off topic a bit.

i've been crazy-experimenting with strings lately.

i tried a set of Elixer Nanoweb Light nickel rounds 45-100 on my fretted Jazz. very pleased.

so, i swapped the TI rounds with the Elixers on my Jazz fretless. OY!
that's what i'm talking about. more to my taste.

just personal pref, but the TI rounds needed a lot of EQing to get what i was looking for.

anyhoo!

LONG LIVE TI FLATS!

i saw a banner ad for this new company. it's an off-shoot startup that does the hand wound thing. i ordered a set of nickel and a set of red copper.

Please let me know what you think of the copper set? I haven't had a set of real copperwound strings in years. They used to be one of my favorite string formulations.

the Godin A4 has the LR Baggs Piezo and pre.

cousin?

My understanding is the top bracing is different on the A4s & A5s than it is on the Baggs models.

The Baggs model also has tuned metal tines mounted under the bridge. They're supposed to contribute a more upright bass sound to the tone. (IMO they don't.) I don't know if the A4s have those.

i've never even heard of copper rounds! i'll definitely report back.

D'Addario used to make a set back in the '70s. Those were the original copper plated "Reds." Their new EXP Reds are copper coated Elixers. I've tried them and I don't think they hold a candle to the originals. The coating wears off fsirly quickly and it also doesn't seem to contribute much to the tone. IMO the new copper coating is purely there for cosmetics.

Right now I'm using LaBella's copper white nylons for my copper fix. They have some of that midrangey mojo the old reds had. But the nylon tape wrap adds a different quality to the mix, so it's not the same even if it is better than nothing.

Very cool info.

Thanks. Will check into those.

Let me know if you hear different - or more about them? I'm only going off of things I read or have been told by Godin enthusiasts. I'm not much of a historian when it comes to these. I just liked the one I tried, bought it, and now play it.

I'm like that with all the instruments I own. I buy them purely for use as players. I'm not a collector or flipper.
