It looks to me to be a factory joint. The woods have different grains and the seam is uniform on both sides. Is that a repaired crack on the back of the neck up by the headstock? It looks like there's glue in there.
Not that model. He played a single cutaway fretted Star Bass, and later a Star Deluxe. His fretless was a Dallas Tuxedo bass he modded, but I don't recall him ever using it live much, if at all. But he did use it in the studio on every album up until Some Girls. For $5, you really got a wonderful deal. Congratulations! Bill Wyman from The Rolling Stones played a fretless Framus in the band's early days, if I'm not mistaken.
The only fretless I've ever heard of him playing was the Dallas. Can't swear under oath on this but didn't Bill Wyman use one of these with the frets removed with The Rolling Stones?
What is that middle guitar? That's got the thin neck i need!!! --JoeGreat find. I have a Star bass and had to reset and shim the neck and the pickup jack has a deathlike grip on the cord when inserted which I guess are both common issues. I think the jack is metric or something alternative to American standards.
What's going on with the bottom of the back of the body? Is it a sticker or tape? Is the body intact?
I think the body shape, contours and construction are wonderful.
Here's mine with some other red basses for some reason.

Wasn't it typically used for Eastern / Soviet bloc equipment? The additional plug I believe was a popular European connector style.

Bill's Tuxedo bass after the mods:
Don't know...I did a Google images search.I saw a Star bass like BW's at a local shop - what an ungainly beast! His modified Tuxedo is super-cool! Is there a site with more detailed pics?
The white on the back of the body I believe was a piece of paper that had gotten damp and stuck to the wood. I was able to remove it all with a damp cloth. It looks much better now. I took it into a luthier to ask about the saddle. I was disappointed in that she suggested a piece of fret wire. What was there previously looked like a plastic tube. I am using the fret wire and I have not notched. I do plan on doing a short video playing this and moving the pickup to demonstrate the different sound.Great find. Nice score but I'd have that scarf joint checked by a luthier or a good tech, it looks a bit suspicious, same with the neck/body joint.
