———————————————————————————————

hi everybody,

i am in contact with the developer of the deep impact from akai.
i suggested to do a reissue of the legendary pedal, and he is seriously thinking about it if the interest is there.
what he needs is a rough estimate of units that he could sell. so, who is in?

maybe we can even talk about some additional features like more presets...

cheers,

lokki

Maybe you can ask them to join this thread :D or tentatively they should do a poll on their website to conduct an interest check. This way, we know at least they are seriously looking into making the reissue.

You really should try to get an idea on pricing first. There is a BIG range in between "ebay prices" and what people are willing to actually pay for it.

the dev does not work for akai anymore, so i don't think akai will have anything to do with it. i found the guy by accident! he did the triple play midi stuff for fishman as well. i will send him this thread link and will talk to him about pricing.

In all honesty, it has to be priced equal or cheaper than the original. There is likely a start up fee, like developing a new board, enclosure and assembly methods that could be addressed with a kick starter or something. From there some marketing and smarts to avoid the possible Akai lawsuit if they choose not to participate. With so many similar / clone pedals out there now, it's not hard to avoid if there is even a threat present. What if EHX were to pick it up, or another like source audio?

The best way to get a sense of who is actually committed is to fire up a kick starter, and advertise it in the forums & the music scene. Money trails always show the truth.

I'm in, and am willing to help with manufacturing engineering and marketing.

not more than 350-400. and that plastic is junky... need to fix it.
What plastic are you talking about?
The Deep Impact is all solid metal.

I wonder how this could be done. From what we gathered the Deep Impact is mostly software so Akai must own rights to it and some of the components used back then aren't available anymore.
As for price, the Deep Impact was a commercial failure, like ALL bass synth pedals.
It sold in shops at less than 200 and people didn't buy. It ended on sale for us$99 at Musician's Friend.
It only became sought after because of Muse. If you want a reissue to happen you first need to sell it to chris Wolstenholme.
