GAS - Late 1970s Non Master Volume Ampeg V4

This amp head popped up on my city's music gear Facebook page. Like most of my gear, I don't need it but I might want it.

I'm completely unfamiliar with the V4. Are these good amps? What's the deal with the "non master volume" version?

The seller said its from the early 1970s.

Non Master Volume Ampeg V4. It's loud...real loud. Can be used for guitar or bass. Has some cosmetic blemishes but it's 40+ years old.

The link didn’t direct me on mobile but if it’s that one for $500 it’s an early 70s and a great price. Lots of V4 threads in here, I’d link a few but like I said - on my phone, probably easier for you to search.

Expect maybe some costs for electrical updates (caps) and tubes in the future based only on the price. Awesome amps for bass. 2-4-8 ohm OT connections, robust builds, really one of my favorite amps. I’ve had a few, still have one in my roster.

Thanks. After I initially posted I realized you have to be a member of the group to view the posts, so I've removed the link and added the text and photo.

The price is right. That’s one heck of a 100W amp. They can cost a bit to bring up to spec if you aren’t doing any of the work yourself. The early ones with the metal knobs are the most desirable.

The master volume models were released in the last half of the 70’s. If you want to add a master volume, it can be done with a simple box that plugs into the back.

Thanks. For me? No Master Volume means one less knob I have to worry about!
