Hm, I should update this thing and just take credit for writing it myself...

i've got my eye on you :p

where did GM go??

i remember him here from when i joined but a while ago i realized that he was just gone...

why did he leave?

Don't skim posts before responding, don't assume you know what is being asked without reading the actual post and ALL RESPONSES!

This is the rule I was referring to.

I just don't want to disobey the rules!

Actually, I can't look at that particular thread without falling off the wagon.

A good point about reading the profile before you reply, except that not everyone fills them in, or doesn't have anything to put in. A while back i posted a light hearted thread on the merits of the Fenders, one reply accused me of being immature and unknowledgable, had they checked my profile they would have realised that i had a great deal of knowledge, and experiance. You tend to aquire these attributes when you have been playing semi pro and pro for over 30 years.

I think another thing, this is just another variation on the not jumping on newbies rule, if someone asks something that is just the stupidest question you've ever heard, don't tell them this! I remember when I first came on here, there were lots of threads talking about Jaco Pastorius (spelling?) except they were referring to him as just Jaco....I had no idea who they were talking about.:( Except I didn't want to ask, because everyone ELSE seemed to know, and he was obviously so good....so I just left it, thinking that I would have been pounced upon. In hindsight, I wish I didn't. So yeah, that's just my two cents worth.....please don't laugh at me.....

Yeah, sorry Blacky, but I actually DID run a search for 'Jaco Pastorius', because that was the logical thing to do to avoid all you jumping on me. It came up with a lot of threads, unsurprisingly, but they were all questions or comments regarding specific songs or techniques, whereas what I was after was, basically, the 'Idiot's Guide to Stupid Talkbass Questions'. So yeah, I did try, next time a might run a search for the 'Idiot's Guide...' and see if that helps. :)
Also, I have a question for you as well, regarding what is generally acceptable on Talkbass and what is not. Is it okay to open up old threads, like really old threads, if you have another question regarding that thread? Or is it preferable to just start a new one? I was just wondering. Thanks!

Y'know,

Bringing old threads back from the dead is actually interesting because it spares people from responding a second time and gives people a chance to see what their old answer was and ask themselves if they feel the same way. Sorta like "meeting with your past self", kind of.

i agree with this - bring up the old thread as opposed to starting a new one, unless the old one is really different from whatever question you may have.

HA HA! ;) :D

anyways, i just want to say, as a fun fact, that skim was originally used to say that you read it carefully and in depth, but so many people used it wrong, that webster just changed it...maybe that post was the deciding factor...hmmmmmmmm... i've just stumbled onto a massive alien conspiracy! ;)

anyways, ya....that's it.:D

geeez, i used alot of smilies...
