Guitar center messed up my used order

I live in Alaska on an island and shop online a lot. I've gotten some really good deals from GC used. It's amazing how many people will hop on any opportunity to trash GC. You didn't, just stated your case. I've also received orders from eBay that were ruined by the poor shipping and shippers. Stuff happens. And yes, this bass isn't worth the trouble. With a troubling start like that, might be best to return and move on.

Yeah, no sense in trashing GC for not giving you the personal touch and expertise of a place like Bass Club Chicago. GC is basically the Target of music stores, and what you get in price and convenience you give up in other areas. I'm sure the guy/gal who packed by bass makes around minimum wage and is feeling stressed over the holiday rush (no excuse, but an explanation) That's where the fantastic return policy comes in.

I have ordered 3 times form GC online. Every order has arrived with no damage. Packing was expertly done on all 3 orders. Maybe I am just lucky. I do know that they have a 45 day return policy. I would call their customer service ASAP to make sure that they were aware of the problem and I would also file a complaint with the delivery company. I would think they would work with you to come up with a solution that would take care of the problem, be it refund, exchange, or something else. I hope everything works out for you.

Agreed. But like target, once you put on those cute little booties, no one knows where it came from!
GC sells low end stuff and official American made Fender guitars and basses like any boo-teek store. But like you said, the treatment is different due to the philosophy of the management. I'll buy from GC used again, because like you said, if something goes wrong, they even pay return shipping. Worth the dice rolling for me...

I was told by a GC store manager when I asked for the truss adjuster for a SBMM SUB4 and any included wrenches or hang tags, "We throw all of that away with the box it came in for every guitar.".

I had this happen as well, but without the damage. After three phone calls, I received the case shipped to my door. Luckily the bubble wrap protected the bass... when the case arrived, the hang tag for the bass was in the case so I know it was the right match

Between basses, guitars, amps, cabs, and PA gear, I've bought from GC used gear pages at least 50 times - I've had things damaged in shipping 3 or 4 times out of all those... GC made it right in each case, though - and IME, contacting the shipper will get you nowhere, since they are contracted with the seller, not the buyer...

I definitely believe GC & Sam Ash throw out all that stuff, gig bags, toolkits, all of it.
except perhaps they resell the gig bags

Sam Ash didn't give me a bag with my Mexican Fender Blacktop & it clearly stated on the Fender site that all of them come with a gig bag.
The guy moaned about it when the manager asked him to give me a deluxe Fender bag for it, claiming they wouldn't have enough for their other instruments. What a crock of poo that was!

It's sad that so many customers walk away w/o even asking for the accessories that are supposed to come with their instrument, but they must or else these retailers wouldn't be tossing the stuff.
In extreme cases I'll bet customers unwittingly buy back those accessories before leaving the store.

True about contacting the shipper. If the bass was packed the way it should have been, IMO, it would not have been damaged. By the same token, if the shipper handled the package the way it was meant to be handled, there should have been no damage.

I don't know what he was talking about but the three basses I bought used from GC came with the manufacturer's tag, if they had them, a truss rod wrnch, and a bridge wrench. Maybe each store has different policies.

Hey, just quoting exactly what he said. Don't care, don't shop there anymore as it's a POS of a store and chain of stores. And yes I'm the guy that's going to bash GC. It's not the Target of music stores, it's the cruddy old Kmart of music stores.

In the future, have the thing you buy shipped to your nearest GC. If you don’t like it, you just don’t take it home. Simpler in that instance - I did this with a Squier Cabronita - the pickup was pretty much deaf to the movements of the E string, so I told ‘em they could keep it.

Yeah, not exactly rare, but not super common either. It's a made in Korea Lakland Skyline Joe Osborn. Such a damn shame, it made it 11 years in otherwise amazing condition. On the bright side at least I get an free trial on one of these before I return it (unless they refund a huge chunk to make it worth keeping). The single coils are remarkably clear and focused sounding. I think from 2006 they would be the Lakland/Hanson ones?
I’d get it back to GC sooner than later. Given their recent downgrade to imminent bankruptcy, who knows how day to day business will be effected. If it’s a great playing bass, and one that you could see yourself playing 5-6 years down the road then definitely see what discount/ credit you can get. In regards to repairing the bass, there are some great luthiers that could make some very respectable looking repairs. I would bet that a quality shop could give you a decent repair in the $100-150 range that wouldn’t be noticed from 10ft away. Without a full refinish, it would always be noticeable, but if it’s a great player, then it’s totally worth it.
