Yeah!!! Simple set (no triple floor toms, fifty toms and twenty eight cymbals needed), straight ahead beat and fills, and lead vocals. I understand he wrote a lot of songs, too, and plays guitar well enough to do that onstage. Perhaps that is why he's such a good drummer. By understanding how the different musical parts of a composition rely on each other to make a solid piece of work, you make yourself a better musician overall and that can't help but translate into your playing. Other drummers who excelled on that instrument but were proficient on other instruments as well include Traffic's Jim Capaldi, The Eagle's Don Henley, and Buddy Miles. Oddly enough, they all sang lead.28-Jul-49

Just the first to come to mind when I looked up the thread
Depends on the style.Something fun to think about. Who's your drummer idol? Who would you dream of playing with? Who's your counter in the pocket? Who is the Swiss watch on the riser in your mind?
Starting -
Makaya McCraven - because Oh My God! How do you do that?
Terry Bozzio - Because he has 6 arms? The Black Page is other worldly.
Donald Johnson - Khruangbin, just impeccable time keeping, so precise.
Simeon Cain - Harder edge drummer, really swings, great timing with a lot of muscle.
