How can I dress up, or add color to a very plain white pickguard for an Indonesian-made Squier Precision? Is there some decal material I could apply? Rattlecan paint is out of the question; it would look too hokey.
I'd sure love a sheet of tortoiseshell decal big enough to apply...maybe followed by clear spray fixatif to seal the decal.

OK, thanks guys. But what I'm really looking for is tortoiseshell or black-pearloid waterslide decals large enough to cover a whole pickguard. I suspect it's not made anywhere. I'd be shopping for a new pickguard except it's hard as heck to find one to fit my particular P-bass - it's not Fender - its a Squier, and Indonesian to boot. I guess that's why I thought about purty-ing up my existing PG.

Skinyourskunk.com does custom graphics. A 3 layer guard can have an image cut into it. I've done both.
Okay, now we're on to something! Dayum! I'll be taking a real close look at the link you sent. Thanks, man.
And, I hadn't even considered an image engraved into the pg. It's 3 layers, so it could be done...any pictures of yours?

Another option is to go to a home-improvement centre and check out some vinyl mactac or vinyl wallpaper, you should be able to find some that's meant to resemble marble, granite etc. A rusty coloured granite will look like torte once you trim it down to size for your pickguard.

Of course, you may find another pattern or colour that inspires you, makes your bass uniquely "yours".

Yet another option are dry-erase markers, then you can change up the graphic whenever the mood strikes...
