I have no idea what to do with my cab (need help!)

For the moment, the highest powered head I own is a Trace Elliot AH350SMX (350 watts at 4 ohms). I know I'll be just fine with the 3015's, but will the Faitals blow it up? This is kind of a concern for me because it means that I'll have to buy a new head before even being able to try the cab... :(

Both drivers are available in 8 ohms. A pair of either connected in parallel gives 4 ohms.

Ok thanks for your answers.

So, basically none of the local shops can order the 3015s or the Faitals. The repair shop says they have an EV of the same series as the 15BX and that the resonance frequency, the size and don't know what else fits perfectly well with my cab and the other speaker. I asked for the exact model name but the guy said he had to unmount it and blablabla. I can still call him again and ask for the model. He charges me 150$ total, including the mounting and unmounting of the broken speaker.

I found a pair of Faitals for 500$ shipped, but that's like 660$ Canadian dollars, which is a lot of money. I'm still tempted to buy them and have a killer cab, but 150$ for a functional cab seems fair too. Once again I mumble.

If your hardest-hitting amp is 350 watts - not exactly a lightweight, but not a heavy hitter by today's standards - you could probably get away with Eminence Beta 15's, or perhaps eminence legends. It'd be heavier, but it'd also be cheaper.

them's fighting words. 350 Trace watts will knock pies off shelves.

I think $150 for a working cabinet is a good way to go too. Especially if you have another one you like better.

Best price I've found on the Faitals. Keep an eye out for their occasional 15% off coupons. Still expensive, but cheaper than everywhere else.

It sucks but they don't ship speakers to Canada. Too "hazardous", they say. Good info though, I'm sure many TB'ers will profit from this. It truly is the best deal I've seen so far. Thanks!

It is indeed, kind sir, but I couldn't keep on doing as if I didn't know the speakers inside the cab didn't match.

... And so I got tempted once again, and I ordered a pair of Faitals this afternoon. My credit card provider will thank you for this TalkBass!

I predict you'll be pleased with the funds spent. The EV's are not 2nd line drivers and can command a good price used in good working order if you need to recoup some funds. The drawback to the EV's is they will only handle about 40% of the power the Faital's will in a proper tuned cab (short Xmax on the EV's).

Ok so it's been a couple of weeks since I got my cab back with the freshly installed Faitals and I must say that it sounds absolutely amazing. So far I tried three different heads in there, and they all sounded awesome. I'm using a 4001 Ric with one compression and one dirt pedal in front (not in the FX loop). With my TE GP12SMX350, the sound is very bright and definite, I get an almost hi-fi type of sound. I tried to mud the sound a little with the EQ because otherwise it tends to eat up all of the gui**** frequencies. The GP7SM250 gave that punchy characteristic sound of the old TE amps. The new thing now is that I tried a gui**** head and it surprised me how good it sounded. I used an Orange Rockerverb 100 and, even if the volume was (as expected) much lower than with any other bass amp, I still managed to get a lot of bass thump out of it. The cab handles almost any type of amp and makes the best out of them.

I'm one happy fellow. :)
