They also had walnut/mocha, the red was actually called "wine" and was a translucent burgundy color, and brown Sunburst (brown around the edges instead of black). By the early 80s though, they started the "international color" series and several new colors were available.
Yup. I have a '78 in Trans Red or Wine. Cool color. Not the best QC in '78 though.

Your best bet is buy a '79 with the neck you want and have it refinished. Send it out to MJT and have it painted to match whatever wear-level is on the neck or have the whole thing restored by John Kallas or other reputable fellow. No big deal and you have the bass you want. If you insist on looking for a '79 Sherwood Green Fretless, I did see one fly by my window this afternoon, in the hands of a leprechaun sitting on a winged pig....so they're out there.
