I wonder how a 3x10 bass cab would sound like?

The Epifani 3x10 cabinet I used to have was great. They’ve been making them for years.

In this case I think the simplest explanation of what the added 10 inch driver does verses a 2x10 is all the explaining needed.

I am another long-time Epifani 3x10 user/lover. I think the form factor is great. It is small and lightweight while being able to hang with a loud-ass rock drummer. If you are overlooking 3x10s, that is your loss, not mine.

As far as what a 3x10 sounds like, that depends on the 3x10. The Epifani is pretty modern sounding with a mid-scooped voicing.

I just picked up an epifani UL -2 310.
Not much larger than my 112 cabs and the same weight too.
A one cab solution. Sounds glorious as well and can potentially take all the power you can throw at it. Also, being 5.3 ohms, you can drive the amp harder; so many cabs are 8 ohms which makes you wish you had a second one.
For my small car, a 410 wasn’t an option .
For some reason, the 310 is a more pleasing sound than its 410 equivalent.

No, they are not since I can see the value of a 1x10.

But as far as a 310 goes, I don't see any value in adding it to the family of 10" designs. The 110, 210 & 410 format and the available 10" drivers are IMO enough to create a plethora of different sounding & performing cabinets. A 310 will IMO add absolutely nothing. Therefore to me a 310 is a marketing gimmick.

Hear, hear!
For that matter, we have the B-15, the SVT, and the Fender Bassman. There's no value in additional designs. All the rest must just be marketing gimmicks.
:D

so you are ok with a 1x10 and a 2x10, but a 3x10 is a gimmick?

mmmmm. ok

You can’t have a 3x10 because it’s just wrong.

I personally don’t favor 2x10s. I love the roar of 4x10s. I also love Sunn 200s cabs with D140s. So I’m saying each cab has its own distinct signature. To each his own.

Did you know that in the Middle Ages when certain scales were considered demonic that 3x10 cabs were included too?

Coffee was also considered demonic in Europe in the Middle Ages, until Pope Clement VIII blessed it.
So glad that we live in more enlightened times!

I’ve been looking at the Epifani 310 cabs because they seem like a nice balance between size and volume (410=too big, 210=not loud enough). Also, the bassist from California Honeydrops uses one and his flatwound Pbass tone is one of the best I’ve ever heard.

I was just researching these cabs on here yesterday, many people saying the UL 310 can get just as loud as most 410’s, but at half the weight. Sounds like a Sham-Wow gimmick... until you TRY ONE YOURSELF!!!

I find the hate for the idea astonishing...though I shouldn't, I've been active on TB for nearly a decade.

A 3x10 sounds like a fantastic happy medium for guys that like 10's. Often a 210 isn't enough volume, but while a 410 is usually plenty of volume, it's hitting your knees...so you see the rise of the 2x210 stack, but that often costs quite a bit more than a 410. A vertical 310 is likely ROUGHLY equal to a 2x15 volume wise, which is perfectly sufficient for a LOT of scenarios, high/tall enough to move the speakers towards your head/ears, cheaper than a 410 and definitely cheaper than two 210's, and simpler than a two cab setup as for many people it would provide a compact one cab solution.

I don't see the issue and would gladly replace my 2x15 setup with a 3x10 or even a 3x12 (heaven forbid!)
