If you could add one simple feature to your bass...

At some point I'll play with the wiring of the pickups and see if I want options there like I enjoy on guitar (phase, series/parallel). If I do, I'll add those.
Seriously considering adding something like a Varitone knob to one.
Electronics I can modify, but if they came from the factory like that, I wouldn't argue!
A Hipshot bridge option on Gibsons & Epis.
A couple more frets.
But the single biggest thing I want is more color options. Gibson & Epi guitars get options, the basses not so much.

I would like to hear it!

I will get on that as soon as I finish these drums on another track (I hate to stop in the middle of something). I'll be about two hours (recording it, turning it into a version I can post on youtube [or does this site take .mp3s?], waiting for it to upload, check for copyright infringements, yada, yada, yada).

Be it a classic design or a modern creation, what's the one feature you wish you'd add to bass you play?

While I'm not a big Music Man fan, I dig their bridge with the adjustable foam mutes. I don't see why more makers haven't copped this design.

You reading this Hipshot???
I’d like a built in blue tooth transmitter for my earbuds to practice without wires all over my couch. One ear in and the other open for hockey season!

Thank you! Now, which bass did you use that effect with, or does the effect take out the natural tone of the bass?

I used my 2018(ish) Ibanez SR300

I'm not sure how to answer the second part of that question. There is a specific effect which "changes" an active bass to a passive bass.

I am not knowledgeable enough about bass effects to truly answer this question. I can tell you the guitar version of this effects unit (GT100) uses effects to "enhance" or diminish the tone of the guitar so it does not completely negate the guitar.

The next time I have the bass effects in my rig (I'm handicapped. Switching instruments and gear is a bit problematic), I will specifically look at the effects chain and try to figure out what's going on.

Thanks so much, Michael! For my use (likely with a Metro Express), I would like to have the effect set so that I can pedal in and out of that effect without having to significantly change any settings on my bass. Your insight and sound clip are helping me to focus on this Boss GT1-B or similar. (Years ago, I did have a ME-8B, with a defretter effect, which was okay at the time). I think that yours is closer to the sound I would like.

YES! De-Fretter is definitely one of the effects in the chain! Your post reminded me. I know that because I've used it to build a "fretless" electric bass effect for myself.

If you give me another 30 minutes, I will hook all the stuff up (my new SR2600) and tell you what effects are used (along with screen captures).

If you just like this post, I'll know you're going to wait.

Okay. Thank you for waiting. Here's the Dealio:

BOSS Settings 1.jpg
The first one is just a look at the first effect and the specific settings of it.

The little (round) red button which is lit up just signifies that effect is active.

The blue (square) "lights" are which stop in the chain you're looking at.

I think it's important to note: the bass simulator and defretter are BEFORE the pre-amp.

This is perfect! Thank you very much!

Side Fretmarkers that I can see in low-light.
No fret markers on the face of the board (it just looks cool)
Thumb wheel truss rod adjustment (for those that don't have it)
An INTONATION "wheel" for easy saddle adjustments (so go invent it)
Noiseless pickups (for those that don't have it)
Roundwound string without the finger squeaks
Smaller bodies..... take the average FSO shape and reduce it by 15%
All should weigh about 8 lbs with no neck dive
Dan, back in the 80's, Kaman made "Kaman Performers", Roundwound strings with a nylon wrap . Just a bit less bright than a traditional roundwound. I was playing every weekend and had a set last for about 18 months with no particular fall off in tone. No finger squeaks and easy on the fingers. Like all good things, they too passed.........
