In response to how many basses....

P.S. This is all in the past 6 years. Ive gone on a buying spree....my latest is a Danelectro Longhorn----nice----does need some work though to all of you looking to get one. Loose pickups that buzz. Too low action that buzzes, and stock strings that are really horrible. But put in a little time and effort and you're in. P.S. I am a Luthier though...but its nothing anyone can do.12 of my ukuleles I've made-great fun! P.P.S. I was married 30 years...till my wife decided she didnt like me. Good luck everyone!

Not trying to be a dick, but it kinda sounds like depression. I'm only saying this because I've been there and for similar reasons. I've come to realize that no amount of instruments can permanently heal the human heart. What can heal it, however, is the music that you create with them. I'd also like to add that my private message box is always open to you or anyone in need of an ear or to share horror stories. I promise to check my usual sarcastic self at the door. Seriously not trying to preach and I wish you luck on your journey. It's also customary to post pics of your collection. ;)

I went from 1 to 18 in a little over a year and I wasn't compensating for anything. Just crazy.

Good thing she decided now when the kids are grown, heh? You’d probably still have one bass with child support payments...
(I’m only guessing...I don’t have kids and I’m not divorced)

When I first realized I could accumulate "things" w/o the trouble of having to figure out how to bring them with me every time I moved, I started doing just that.
In the past I worked as a contractor & went where the jobs were, keeping my personal belongings to a bare minimum.

After years of having a roomful of gear I ditched it all & started over. Now I've got one bass & I focused on that a long while.
Now I've got two guitars, similar to how I had two basses last Summer.

Having an extra budget instrument around makes you appreciate your higher-end instruments more.

Most likely I'll play the extra guitar through the Summer & then move it along in the Fall, just like I did last year with that SR300EB.
