James Condino

I am so grateful for a community that cares.

I continue to pray for the families that have lost everything. I pray for the people who have lost their lives and the missing who have not been found.

We drove through the hurricane on our way to Florida. While we carefully skirted most of the damage we did experience power outages. I have family and friends that live in Asheville. I keep them in my daily prayers. I am glad they are safe and surviving under unthinkable conditions.

My niece in Asheville is an outdoor survivalist, she knows how to get by…as does James. If you want some “boots on the ground” photos her instagram is Leah.moves.

Stay safe everyone…life can and will change in a blink of an eye.

Did a delivery to Georgia today. About 100 miles of roadway West of Columbia SC and well into Georgia was without power...hence no petrol.
I was calculating a side trip to Atlanta if I couldn't find gas in rural areas.
BAM! All of a sudden, 50 miles out of Augusta there was power (and therefore gas).
Do not take long drives in this part of the south right now!
I never thought about that before. The gas pumps need power, and the stations probably don't have generator backup. We think about that in the Midwest (not that we do anything about it) because if you lose power, you lose heat, even if you have gas. Because the furnace controls and blower require power.

Has anybody received any communications from or updates on James? How has Helene affected his business? What are his losses? Last thing I recall seeing from him is that he and his shotgun and hound dog were hunkered down holding down the fort.

I did notice on a couple of TB conversations James had participated in that his name was struck through with a horizontal line, which I take to mean he is "inactive."

This post is from earlier this month but his status isn't marked inactive.

Still alive...

Priorities for the entire region are still on basics like food and shelter and water and getting ready for winter and how do we get past all this damage. Over a month later and we all have no potable water for the forseeable future. Schools finally opened yesterday. On the ground, many places are in devastation and will be for years. Most of our venues are closed or gone, no gigs, no customers, anyone who relied on music to support themselves has moved away if possible, along with everyone who worked in food service or hospitality or tourism. If they didn't have the ban on "commercial customers" selling basses, you'd see most of what I own is now for sale- ALCOAs, Kays, et cetera. I'm literally in the middle of putting a lift kit on my Prius because many of the the roads that are left are so bad I'm having trouble getting around.

Today is a beautiful fall day in Appalachia, I got in a nice mountain bike ride on some of the trails that are open, my first customer in five weeks is coming by, and I stopped eating cats a few weeks ago.......

Thx for asking.

Echoing this from the AVL area as well. 'Normal' is a long way off, no matter what our tourism board says.
