JHS Punchline

Sigh. This has been discussed at length, and Josh didn't do anything wrong. Almost every pedal maker makes clones.

Yeah, but we're here on talkbass, "The Place Where The Same Topics Are Discussed Over And Over Again". So if we're able to make new topics about P vs J every week, why not take this opportunity to discuss once more about Josh stealing other's designs? Just for fun?

Josh cloned some in production pedals and diy circuits:
The Ultimate JHS Guitar Pedal Clone List [2023 UPDATED]

Everyone does old circuits but it’s no bueno to clone more current, in production circuits.
New circuits almost universally take old circuits and add features, or modify them a bit. Take the Xotic preamps. They are essentially Tube Screamers with an EQ afterwards. (IIRC, the Xotic preamps are basically a Tube Screamer with the tone control set at a certain value, and then a bass+treble shelf bolted on).

No headphones = no thanks

How much of this round of JHS cash grab will be going to Carol Kaye?

They don't even seem to know that Carol Kaye herself has said that they were never actually called the "Wrecking Crew", that the moniker was invented by Hal Blaine in the 90's, and that she has consistently ridiculed it for years. It's on the front page of her website. They're talking all about the Wrecking Crew this and that all while invoking her bass sound.

They did say they were trying to emulate a channel strip in a pedal format, which is most certainly what she would have played into.
Actually, she was also running a Fender Concert amp, a 4x10 geetar amp, much of the time. In fact, I'd wager some of her early famous tracks were only that, before folks realized that a DI bass signal was the most usable/flexible.

I don't understand the antipathy towards Josh. He seems like a good guy running a good company to me.

A lot of people want to drag him for reasons that have nothing to do with the products.

This pedal sounds great, IMO, and those are some of the most iconic bass sounds around that they are shooting for. Will be interesting to see if it goes over well.

Google Josh Scott Devi Ever and have

Google "Josh Scott + Devi Ever + church" to find out why. It's about issues with another pedal company and a questionable organization.

And that was years and years ago... Let's not keep dwelling on the past.

I still don't like JHS, these days it seems more of a Youtube show with pedals as merch, than a proper pedal company. I don't want to support that business model, and I don't care for most of their pedals. Although this one does look interesting.
