Journey Makes R&RHOF, Possible Performance with Steve Perry

Journey deserves it. They earned it through relentless touring, great songwriting, great musicianship, quality all around. Something not seen a lot today. Selling millions of records is awesome too. They wanted to be rock stars and they did it. Good job guys!!

He should be there as well as artists like Grand Funk Railroad. Things might be facilitated if artists who have nothing to do with rock stopped getting inducted and more real rockers got inducted instead.

A-freakin'-men.

A Rock & Roll Hall of fame should deal with rock & roll, specifically 12-bar-blues based music, FIRST. That's the genesis of rock & roll.

I know that much current music doesn't derive from that structure, but IMO it's not rock & roll. It should either have its own recognition process or be in a part of the R&R Hall that's specifically for Non R&R music.

Perry is nominated as well as everyone else in the band. Doesn't matter whether he performs or not. It was his decision to step off the bandwagon. Same as Peter Cetera with Chicago. He goes in as part of the legacy of the band. He decided to leave and no longer wants to perform with the band.

I wonder if Perry can still do it. It would be weird if Arnel Pineda sounds markedly better. They should do a medley and let Perry, Pineda, and Castronovo take turns at the lead vocals. That would freak some folks out.
I hope Perry and still get it done for a song or two at the concert. That being said, and having seen all three lead vocalists with the band, Pineda is the best singer they have ever had. He can hit the Steve Perry "big note" at the end of every song and then go higher just because he wants to. Plus, he just loves being there. He acts the part. And his voice is nothing short of shockingly good. I did love the little bit of "growl" Perry had in his voice. But his new kid is really something to behold live.

I saw Journey live back in their prime, and Steve Perry could do everything he did on the record and more. He sounded better live than on the recordings. But that was long ago, and time is not always kind to a lead singer's voice.

I agree Pineda is amazingly good.
