Just bought my first set of thomastik infeld jazz flats - GOOD GAWD~!

Yah, TijF344 string stiffness and surface texture is very comfort fretting , sliding and plucking . After playing saveral months with it, those Elixir Nickel 45-130 , Dunlop 40-125 and Pressurewound 44-102 become serious stiff to me.

Lately I'm almost sold on buying a set of these.

But exactly how "floppy" are they compared to other bass strings?

I don't mind a little flop. Anyway I have a set of La Bella White Coppers. They are really floppy and that's the one thing that sort of annoys me about them although they do play nice.

Are the Thomastiks better or worse than these flop-wise?

I haven't tried those La Bellas but I'm fairly confident the TIs will feel looser. They're comparible to 40-95 hex core rounds though the A string is even looser. I love them and after a while adjust to the tension. Very hard to describe as they're so unique. Well worth trying at least once and especially in a live performance as with a full band is where they really shine.

Funny thing is they cost over half what I paid for the bass that I put them in
same for me: i have a set on both of my cheapies...way fun!

ZenG : you might want to try them just for the experience. IMO: they're not excessively floppy...but they are 'fun' floppy. (i'm a finger guy, not pick, so that might tell you something.)

They marry up with a P bass like you wouldn't believe.
Mine are five years old and are now nicely broken in. They never truly die off.
Allow a smidgeon more relief to compensate for the extra bloom and you're golden.

I have a set on my P Bass and they sound great, its a perfect match in my opinion. Yes they do cost relatively more than other strings but will last a lot longer, 15 years longer so its a win win situation. There was a time that I would never even consider putting flats on my Bass, now I won't use anything else. A Precision Bass fitted with Thomastik-Inkfeld Flatwound Jazz strings= Sound Heaven!

Sounds good! How do they compare with, say, DR Legend or GHS Precision Flats or D'Addario Chromes? I'm looking for a fat round dubby tone for my Pbass for my reggae dub stuff.

I’m not a big flats guy. But I keep a bass strung with these, because yeah: they are the next best thing to not having a string at all. SO EASY.

Every now and then I’ll get the urge to play but am feeling pretty lazy, that’s when I bust it out. Back in The Elder Days Before The Plague, if I knew our guitar player’s wife was going to sit in for a song or five, I’d bring the flats bass. If you’re gonna kick things down a notch, flats do the trick and the TIs just have the perfect tone.
