Just bought my first set of thomastik infeld jazz flats - GOOD GAWD~!

I have only tried Chromes out of the ones you have mentioned and they are fairly bright so not ideal for the tone you are looking for. The TI's will do the reggae tone but they are quite prominent in the mids, maybe something like La Bella Deep Talkin Flats might be your best choice, but they are quite thuddy.

Lately I'm almost sold on buying a set of these.

But exactly how "floppy" are they compared to other bass strings?

I don't mind a little flop. Anyway I have a set of La Bella White Coppers. They are really floppy and that's the one thing that sort of annoys me about them although they do play nice.

Are the Thomastiks better or worse than these flop-wise?

I play tapewounds and have played TI Jazz flats. IMO the TIs are stiffer than tapes. They aren’t as loosey-goosey as some give the impression of them being. They’re very smooth feeling too.

I’m coming up on two years with the same set of TIJFs on my Fretless Jazz and I love them. I’ve had two detours (D’Addario Tapes and ProSteels for a short time) but have come back to the Jazz Flats. They sound and feel incredible. I might even say they’re the best strings I’ve ever played.

My TI-strung P-bass is so fun to play and has the most satisfying tone I have in my own quiver of tools. Listen to this entire youtube vid (not of me!). The comparison is very enlightening and reinforces to me that P-bass and TI flats is the tone I seek to use most often. The good thing about this vid is he demonstrates multiple flats in both isolated and in-a-mix contexts. I remember buying sets of TI flats from GC for $29 many years ago in blowout sales when many ppl didn't seem understand the true capabilities of these strings. Should have bought the entire stock and then resold them!

I've just put a set of JF344's on my Yamaha TRBX504 and they sound phenomenal.

I had D'addario chromes on there before and the TI's have such a awesome fundamental and a huge range of tone. I can get a great rock punch or mellow sound and the lower tension is helping with some developing arthritis in my left hand which is making playing a challenge sometimes.

The chromes could sound 'clunky' at times, they either didn't suit the Yamaha or I just didn't like them.

I'm wondering if TI's short scale strings @32" are too long for my Sire U5? I'd love to try a set on there.

Sounds good! How do they compare with, say, DR Legend or GHS Precision Flats or D'Addario Chromes? I'm looking for a fat round dubby tone for my Pbass for my reggae dub stuff.
Dubby? GHS Precision Flats.

TI Jazz Flats and Chromes are more mid-forward. DR Legends are in between.

TIs are a little floppy, yet feel smooth, while Chromes feel like dusty, taut bridge cables. GHS flats start out feeling dusty but they smooth out quickly. They sound big, fat and round.

JMHO, YMMV.
