Sure!
That goes below the bridge, though, so it will have a very different effect. But I'm all for the DIY!
Sure!
I'm doubtful that dampening the afterlength would have even close the same effect.
That's what sh-(...snip...) It's just a hose and can be easily installed in either location.
That is too far from the bridge and the strings will hammer against the rubber which will give an unpleasant noise.
Since this has caused a little confusion, I'll mention the image originally provided was of the hose mute the way it came to me, unchanged, when I purchased my DB back in 2018. Note, again, that it's very easy to move the hose anywhere desired on the string bed.Perhaps a simpler approach??? ...
How handy that this hose can be relocated to adjust for various degrees of damping.Since this has caused a little confusion, I'll mention the image originally provided was of the hose mute the way it came to me, unchanged, when I purchased my DB back in 2018. I won't argue about precise tone or esthetic comparisons, except to say that if I'm using a mute at all, I'm not that concerned about sound quality, I'm simply concerned about playing quietly, and this hose mute accomplishes that pretty nicely.
Here is how it is situated, when not being used, today:
