I need help finding a new bass. Something light weight, under $500, and full 34" scale. 24 frets would be nice, but isn't a necessity. I've checked out Epiphone's Ignition Violin and Club basses, but I'm not a fan of the 30" scale. Solid body, or semi hollow are okay. What would you recommend?

Yes, as long as the product is not damaged too greatly, used gear is just fine!
If you buy from the Guitar Center used site you get a 45 day return policy - shipping to your door is about $20 from any guitar center in the country (I'm assuming you're in the States, please correct me if I'm wrong). They generally describe the condition of the bass online but best to call the store directly and talk to an associate who can give you an assessment over the phone regarding the condition.
Only as an example, you can get something like this. This is an Ibanez SR700 - 24 frets, 34" scale and weight I believe is maybe a little over 7lb.

Again, this is just an example, there's a lot of other basses to choose from.
Best to go to a music store though and trying out various models first before choosing to buy online.

Great! I did not even think about getting a used bass for such a low price. Thank you.

No problem - forgot to mention, if you need to return a bass for some reason, you don't have to ship it out, you can go to any guitar center near you and return it there. I've bought many basses from their used site.

Here's a link to their used site and I've sorted the listing by price order. It gets updated frequently so worth checking out every now and then as I've gotten some great deals .

I used to use this one, but its black...I loved it..I played it tuesday night at practice..lol funny really its the first time I've used it since I switched to the 5 string...the neck was so skinny..lol I couldn't believe the difference. The other thing I've noticed is that using a 5 string with a wider neck has changed the way I approach playing the bass...I actually found myself thinking the 5th string was there...lol..weird..I think that means the transformation is about complete...

Find a used Fender MIJ Precision Lyte Bass.. PJ setup and very light.. You can drop in a "Geezer" EMG pickup setup,(Which I did) and the bass moves into the vintage vibe...

Take a look at Dean basses. I have a 4 string and 5 string Dean Edge basses. They are made of basswood and weigh in at approx. 7.3 lbs. Just right for my tired old neck. They are very comfortable to play with good sound and good dressing on the frets. Both come in under $200. Worth a look. Sam Ash and GC can order them for you.

not sure if anyone mentioned this, but Sweetwater lets you sort search results by “lightest instrument”.

Love this feature. Especially because even if you are looking at basses of the same model and year, the weight can vary pretty drastically.
