LowEndLobster Bass Videos

Great review! It's amazing how much imported instruments have improved over the years. I do agree with you, I think the neck would be a deal breaker for me (if I was in the market fo one).

I haven't looked, but have you reviewed the Sterling DarkRay? Honestly it's way more bass than I need but Josh Paul's videos have me jonseing for one...

Kudos for the matching fingernails!

The trick fish seems to make everything sound great. I wonder if that disqualifies it from reviews? Have you tried something with say mudbuckers through it?

Also the poly blue octave is a real beast. I own two and got rid of all other octave pedals. My poly blue will track all the way to lowest notes sliding in fretless. It has a built in phaser or Leslie vibe also. I’m surprised it isn’t more popular given that it also has a more glitchy vintage mode if you need that sort of thing.

I like the pedals/effects add, just be wary of that rabbit hole of infinite depth… :)

Hey everyone! Thank you for all the kind words and great feedback on my previous two videos. Still working out a few things in regards to the format but we're definitely moving in the right direction. I've decided to have 3 "tiers" of video in regards to like depth, complexity and video length. I filmed a review the other day and tried to keep it 'short', the final edited vid is like 45 min LOL.... so I'm going to try and split things up a little bit.

We're going to do:
"Deep Dives" - Over an hour long focusing on a particular bass or style of bass, its history, comparisons with similar instruments in style or price point, LIVE MIX (with singer and guitarist) in my studio. These videos will be few and far between, with the first one being the EBMM Stingray Retro. We'll only be using the Trickfish amp for these.

"Reviews" (Basically the standard format) - Detailed reviews focusing on one NEW (or still available as new) bass. We will analyze it's features, price, ergonomics, and what I view as the pros and cons of the bass. Playing/sound examples will be played through both the Ampeg Rocket 50 combo ($300 amp) as well as my Trickfish stack ($2550 amp setup with Origin Cali76 Compressor sitting between the bass and amp) with and without effects. These videos are generally 20-40 minutes.

"Fresh Looks"/"Revisits"/"Tone Shootouts"/"Mods" : This category will essentially be the "third" tier. These will remain mostly unchanged and are generally going to be around 10-20 minutes.

"Mods"- Mod videos will be largely unchanged. I'll briefly discuss the instrument we're modding, the idea/goal behind the mod, sped up footage of me performing the mod, and a tone comparison of before/after. I will probably release unedited mod footage separately that way people can look at the real time mod vs a sped up version, but the regular "mod" vids will feature sped up workbench footage for the sake of time. We'll probably just use the Trickfish and not feature any effects.

"Fresh looks" will be focusing on interesting/custom/non standard/discontinued instruments that you generally can't buy new or through a retailer. We'll focus on why the instrument is significant/weird/interesting. Only going to play through the Trickfish and feature effects.

"Revisits" will be looking at basses I've reviewed previously. We'll talk about quality of ownership, longevity, long term pros and cons, and addressing points from previous reviews where I felt I was wrong or right. Not sure which amp I'll use for these, maybe depending on the "niceness" or the particular market demographic of an instrument I would choose one or the other (or maybe both?). These will be around 15-20 min. Playing won't go over ALL the tones but instead some of my favorites.

"Tone Shootouts" will be a comparison of two or more basses of similar style or price (or just a wacky comparison for fun). These will be straight forward videos and will likely only feature either the Trickfish or the Ampeg but not both, and no effects. Only basic details of the instruments will be briefly discussed.

We have another review video coming up next along with a couple of mods before the Stingray Retro deep dive. I totally said I was going to do fewer videos.... yeah that hasn't worked out. I'm having way too much fun making content and I plan to just keep going with it. Thank you all for watching and reading this word salad (if you made it this far). Until we groove again! ;)

Sounds good. I’ve always respected your opinions because you lay out a straight forward way understanding how you’re evaluating the instrument. You are clear, calm and above all honest. I am interested to watch a deep dive into the Stingray Retro.

Bottom line - I hope I speak for a lot of us out here - so glad to see you back! Keep on doing your thing my friend ✌️🎵🎶 🦞

Hi @LowEndLobster! I'm so glad to see you creating new content again!

I would love to see a video with your updated bass collection for 2024. The one from a few years ago was awesome! I remember that you sold quite a few basses last fall-winter, so I would love to see what's changed.

A little teaser of an upcoming project ;)

Hey Everyone! Here's my latest vid, a review of the new Squier Debut Series Precision Bass..... It is certainly de-butt. Enjoy!

Back when I was a kid just starting to play bass, my brother and I shared a crappy Squier Bronco bass. I've played some higher-end Squiers that really impressed me in recent years, so it's reassuring to know that they're still capable of putting out absolute trash that will turn people off playing bass entirely.

Hey Everyone! Today We're having a look at the Ibanez SRD905F - the Sardine! This freaky fretless is purpose built for one thing, providing the player with a fantastic fretless experience. Does it achieve this? Let's find out!

I listened while I was waking up in bed this morning. It sounded so pleasant it almost put me back to sleep!

Too fishy I think.

Anyway, it sounds great but the board is a bit strange. I had an older Ibanez fretless with the dark lines. Those I don’t mind so much as they are in the correct place (even tempered place anyway), but the very visible markers are a mistake/distraction. They could have left out the inlays and it would have been fine. Too many style folks vs fretless players in prototyping.

Had a lot of potential and I was looking at this one. Lobster reviews to the rescue.
