Modern grindy amp 350 watt range

Aaaaight, so i guess GK route is my quest. A peavey minimax will not give me satisfaction?

There is GK MB500 i can buy, but the price is still a bit high for such an old amp (400 euro). These are also lightweight class d amps I believe. Are the MB’s reliable and easy to work on if something goes wrong?

Love u all!! 🫶

BobbyB, a Peavey amp designer who used to post on Talkbass, once noted (in response to a post from me where I said I loved my Peavey Headliner amp) that the MiniMega (and this likely goes for the later MiniMax, too) was designed to offer versatility and a refined modern sound, whereas the Headliner was all about, quote, "unbridled volume." (I think that meant that the Headliner's design resulted in the amp compressing and rolling off the low end at higher volume levels, just like a tube amp. It sure sounds that way.)

If I were you, I'd buy a MiniMax from Amazon (or some other supplier that offers a 30-day free return policy) and try it out. Might be just the ticket. Or maybe a Headliner amp head, if they're still available. Once I bought mine, my Ampeg PF-800 was relegated to backup status.

To be honest, at the moment there is none of the modern grindy amps that I feel attracted too. Or they are out of my budget.

The Hartke HA3500 is doing fine and with some preamp before it I can get all the grind I want, I wonder if the Peavey Minimax or something similar would be a real upgrade. In the meantime I'll wait till a GK 400/700rbii pops up around here...

Thanks!

A single transmitting tube with kilovolts on the plate, often built on a chrome and mahogany chassis. A certain breed of hi-fi "purists" will pay kilobucks for them. Low output power and can also double as a room heater.
Yeah, there's that breed of insanity too...
