Here's a central place for everyone to see pricing on currently available Music Man basses and options!

The prices posted here are "List" prices. Dealers are required to advertise MM products for at least 70% of List, but they are free to sell at whatever price they like in private negotiations.

Every Music Man instrument is defined by a 5-part code called a Build Number. The Build Number takes this form:

MMM-CC-NN-PP-Q

where:
MMM = Model Code
CC = Color Code
NN = Neck Code
PP = Pickguard Code
Q = Quantity

This first post will just cover the available model numbers. I'll follow up with additional posts regarding the other codes.

All of the following models ship in cases, and the case is included in the price!.

I know this thread is older but I'm looking for info on a bass I just picked up.

My color code doesn't match anything listed and after the last set of numbers (pickguard) there are two sets of letters. Is there anywhere to obtain this info?

Thank you!!

170 = Sterling
43 = unknown color
20 = RW fingerboard
05 = White Pearloid pickguard
CS = standard case
CR = chrome hardware

I hunted through the price lists I have (2015-2021), and I couldn't find any mention of the color code 43. Sorry, I'm not sure what that is. You can probably call Ernie Ball and they could tell you.

I really appreciate your help. It's an 04 and it's a red with sparkle in it. It's very very nice. I just wanted to know what they called it.

Is there any information available on the quantity StingRay5 made by year? Possibly color?

EBMM does not provide production numbers unless it is a limited run where they explicitly state XXXX are being made. There is an EBMM forum separate from Talkbass that is full of extremely knowledge people that may be able to help out if you ask kindly. Just don't mention anything about modding a Stingray or replacing he knobs on a Bongo.

currently availàble Music Man basses and options
...

More observation than complaint, but seeing that list and remembering the website, a lot has changed in 7 years. There are no real options anymore. Body Colour/Fingerboard/Hardware combinations are now fixed in 'schemes' so you can't even mix and match. So 'x' colour only comes with 'y' neck and 'z' hardware. Half of the 9 StingRay schemes are going to have limited or niche appeal, and the Sterling bass comes in just two (terrible, IMHO) colours. If I want a maple fingerboard my colour options are 1 (red) for Sterling or 3 (black, white burst or green burst) for a StingRay. There are no factory fretless instruments (BFR only). In that 2015 list it was possible to get lined or unlined fretless fingerboards on pretty much any instrument. It's a pretty sad state of affairs, IMHO. YMMV.

Yeah, compared to G&L, Music Man always felt constrained in their options. Sounds like that has only gotten worse since I stopped being a Music Man dealer. Sorry to hear that.

Even with the most basic options.... I never got why they can paint one model in a certain color, but that color is not available on other models. I'm sure it makes sense to somebody at Music Man for whatever reason, but it's very frustrating from the outside. And it kills the emotional element of dreaming up your ideal instrument, which is a huge part of buying & selling $2,000+ instruments. Turning luxury items into SKU's/commodities seems like a mistake to me.

Of course, I still wish I had this fretless Stingray that arrived right before they redesigned the Stingray in 2018. That was an incredible bass that I had all but purchased in my own mind... until somebody came along and bought it. I slept on that one too long.

I've missed far to many over the years, but I jumped on the '91 fretless SR4 in my avatar the second I found it, so at least that is no longer a problem for me.
