That wouldn't do anything except take your shirt with itJust use a 4” wide strap with suede backing. I wouldn’t change a thing about the bass. Congratulations!
My cure is to move the strap pin to the back of the neck heel.A couple of days ago I received this Ironbird in great condition. It's an IB-657, which I've only found in the 1992 catalog. It arrived with the original tag and synthetic leather bag. It plays great, electronics are clean and the neck is straight and nice. I will probably gig with it already next Saturday. The only issue is the neckdive, which is pretty noticable. I'll probably change tuners to something more lightweight, and add some fitness weights to my guitar strap, and that should solve most of it.

Back in the 80's yes . Now...probably no,
Congrats on the score
i hope you can get some balance going for it (so you don't have to support the neck while playing), but when you get it to balance you'll be the bada$$ with the bada$$ EB! congratulations on your new instrument!
I'd gig it in the Irish band just to confuse the traditionalist musicians & patrons.Nice score! That bass screams METAL!
Have you tried temporarily Scotch-taping the end of the strap to a spot very close to the bridge instead of at the end of the upper body fin? Moving the "back" (bridge-side) strap button often works better than other neck-dive solutions, and doesn't involve adding weight.I'm trying out a few different things. The most successful (and drastic) is I've taped an ancle weight (1kg) to the back/right side of the strap. That solves most of the problem, even if it looks a bit daft. I also ordered a 9,5 cm wide and grippy strap. I'll definitely get some lighter tuners, and add some lead weights in the control cavity so that I can wear the bass a bit more normally.
