NBD Fail - Musician's Friend sending me damaged crap from GC

Well, first of all, I have no idea how much Ibanez models cost. I also suggested the TB Classified because there were "...several short-scales available", and that's what he was interested in.

But if it is a violation, then mea culpa.
No worries from my part. Looked at it and appreciated the heads up. We chose the Mikro since it's the shortest short scale at a beginners price point, and she liked it. That and I've been really impressed in the past with Ibanez's cheaper basses. You really get a lot for your money. Trying my best to eliminate all excuses for her not sticking with it after a month :)

Thanks @DiscoRiceJ and @sporadic20414. Certainly no evil intent on my part. The "shameless plug" comment was tongue in cheek, though admittedly ill-advised in retrospect.

I'm almost 70 now, and to be honest, I don't really care if one of my basses sell or not. I'm a "hot button" buyer, and often buy something that hits said button whether I need it or not. When I do give in to those whims, I normally post one for sale to keep peace on the home front. ;)

So sincere apologies to anybody that I did offend.

That's pretty nasty. This sort of thing seems to have been pretty common lately. They seem to be moving out returns and floor stock as new with the hope that most customers aren't going to bother with the hassle of a return; really seems like they're just trying to liquidate as much inventory as they can right now.

A lot of people do not realize that MF (pretty good acronym for them, huh?) and Guitar Center are connected.

I'm sorry this happened to you and your daughter, she deserves better!

Amazon came through for me! Rolled the dice with a 3rd party seller, but everything was factory sealed and new.

The kid loves gaming (like most these days) as well, so mixing in some Rocksmith with the teaching (friend turned me onto it). Pretty fun, had never tried it before. She's hooked so far :)

Same just happened to me. I ordered a guitar from my kid and it showed up in bubble wrap scuffed and stained. I called them up and the guy said “oh nobody let you know that I was going to be a floor model?”

Sweetwater gets my money from now on.

So, my 12 year old daughter has been showing interest in picking up Bass, something I fully support! My 34" scale felt too big for her though, so I started looking at short scales. Decided on an Ibanez GSRM20 Mikro in Starlight Blue, which seemed to be out of stock everywhere. After a week of checking, Musician's Friend finally showed stock and I ordered it. A few days later, received a ship notification originating from Guitar Center #769 in Atlanta, which I thought was odd (later found out this is common now). Yesterday, this beat up piece of junk showed up on my doorstep. No Ibanez box, no retail tags or paperwork. Just a beat up bass wrapped in bubble wrap... Box even had someone else's invoice attached (for a TMB100) to the outside, with my shipping label on the other.

Note there was no damage to the box, and no paint chips in the box. They literally packed up this piece of crap and sent it to me as a new bass. Called yesterday to return it and after 30min they said they'd emailed me a return label. Still no email from them, so opened up a dispute with my credit card company. I'll never do business with them again, this is ridiculous.View attachment 3915535 View attachment 3915536 View attachment 3915537

If this is indeed the way MF is going, then that's just sad. They were good for a long time with sending you factory-sealed, warehouse-kept gear. My last purchase, come to think of it, was an ESP AP-5 from them. GC later called me, saying that the only stock were hanging in their stores, and that the one I wanted was in new shape (but on the wall). I thought that was weird, as I told them I expected a factory-sealed bass. They understood, and then I told them to cancel my order. If I order a new instrument, it should be factory-sealed. Don't inspect it, test it, and don't open for whatever reason. If it's a dud, I'll send it back.

I don't order basses from Sweetwater anymore, either. I returned an ESP BB1005, and they resold it as new...not open-box/return, but brand new. I now don't believe their "55-point inspection", and see that process (every box opened to supposedly check instruments), as a loophole for them to lie about a bass never having been touched by another customer.

This is all just more reason to not buy from chains online...stick with TB and Reverb, and protect yourself at least with PayPal Buyer Protection (of which has come through for me numerous times, as has Ebay).

I ordered a $1000 Warwick bass from MF and received a $150 discount. Right after I ordered I saw the bad reviews. Whoops. The bass arrived with 2 bridge saddles missing. I didn't even want to bother with their customer service so I ordered the saddles from Warwick directly. Once the saddles were in place the bass played great. However, the bass was advertised as brand new but the serial number indicates it's a 2017 model and not a 2020 model.
