NBD: Mike Lull V4 in Mary Kaye & Gold. Instant #1

Killer! Big fan of white basses, and Lulls in general. My current number 1 is this 2024 arctic white Lull, chambered alder/rosewood roasted maple with fralins. Would kill with some white pickup covers.

Yours has the new Lull handwound pickups? How would you compare those to the standard Fralins that come in most Lulls?

I love Fralins, but feel like Lulls are so resonant and articulate acoustically that they benefit from a louder and darker pickup. Am considering a Lollar or Lakland pickup swap as the Lull Fralin combo is really grindy and present and I prefer to get that from the Amp and have the bass hit the front end with more lows and highs and less mids

I’ve never played the Fralins. The only thing I can compare them to is the Seymour Duncan or the Lull Thunderbirds.

Spencer describes them as a 60s jazz pickup with more output. I would agree with that. They’re crisp but not too sizzly. And the low end is punchy and smooth without being boomy.

I’d say it’s the best sounding passive jazz bass I’ve ever played.
