The invitations from AARP are coming fast and furious, and I'm realizing I'm no spring chicken anymore. WIth that comes the realization I better enjoy my playing now more than ever. And ya know, I've NEVER bought a brand new bass. After almost 40 years of playing!
Does my playing warrant it? Yeah maybe. I'm no slouch. Can I afford it? At this point in my life, yes.
Will I play it? Endlessly!
This baby ticked all the boxes for me. Headless. Super light weight. Fanned fret (I loved my ABZ, but the 37" was a bit much for these midly arthiritic fingers). Darkglass pre. Big Rig pickups from Nordy (so sweet). I got a nice deal on it. And, well, it's just bada$$ sounding. Color me happy.
Without further ado, here's the requisite glory pic.
Now back to playing. Gig tomorrow night. I can't freakin' wait! :hyper:

Been eyeing these. I kinda wish there was a passive (sans preamp) version but I may still get one around Christmas if I can try one out first.
Just pull up the volume knob. Instant passive.
It really is great. I've only spent a couple hours with it. Dialing in tone with my rig has been a joy. The bass is very responsive to technique, so I'm getting all kinds of different tones without touching a knob.
Super comfortable to play as well.
I bought on a whim without playing it. No regrets man. It's a beast.

Hey redwood. I've been looking at the 4 string version and was wondering if you still liked it and how's the neck profile. Now that you've had it for a while. Thanks![/QUOTE
Hey imdkoz, I still love it! Seems to get better every time I pick it up. I have a few gigs under my belt with it, and it's glorious in the mix. It really sits just perfectly. I think the combination of the pu's and the Darkglass pre is quite excellent.
The neck profile was a non-issue for me. It's different with the endurneck profile, but I don't even notice it now. But as I have said before, I have VERY large hands and VERY long fingers so YRMV. I really think it helps me maintain proper left hand position. I can absolutely notice a positive effect on my dexterity on the fingerboard with it.
I don't think sales are setting the world on fire, so you may be able to score one for a lower price than what they're shown listed for. I'd take a shot. Great instrument.

Thank you for the reply! I have smallish hands so wide, thick necks don't work for me and that's my main issue buying without trying. Hopefully one will pop up on the used market so trying it won't be such a big hit.

It's not really wide. Not sure of the spacing at the nut, but it s 18mm bridge spacing.
I wouldn't exactly call it thick. It's about three same thickness as my L2500, but with a unique shape. The shape promotes better thumb position and better technique. There are a few YouTube videos out there that explain it.
But yeah, it might be wise to try before you buy.

Currently having that issue as well between a 4 or a 5. Specifically aiming at a 4 but a 4 stringer that can produce some good thumpin lows in a funk band mix. It’s a strange toss up between the two but my gf is leaning more towards the prog for my personal taste than the natural Boden.

I’ve briefly had a moment with these instruments in hand back at pitbull audio in San Diego where I was able to try them out. Really cool guys for them to open up the bass from the shipping box and have it out for me ready to play. Sadly, I can’t remember how they sounded like so another attempt hopefully soon will determine which one I should choose from.

#redwood I was just wondering if you've noticed any grounding issues on your Strandberg? Looks like mine is heading back to Sweetwater. If I use a high gain setting on my dUg pedal, which is my tone, there's a bad hum. The only way to get rid of it is to touch the string clamps on the headstock. Not sure what your tone is but just wondering. Thanks!

No. I've had no issues with the bass since day one. My biggest problem has been deciding what type of strings I want to try out on it. Also, I have Black Beauties on it right now, which are coated, which I have had some minor issues with on my Bongo 5HSP because of grounding. I also use a higher gain type sound. And in-ears. If there was a grounding issue I'd be able to hear it for sure. I'll have to keep an eye on that though. You're not the first person reporting this issue.

Yeah I was using RotoSound Nexus and the E string isn't quite long enough so you have the color strand in the nut. I swapped back to the D'Addario NYXL that were on it and had the same issue. I saw the post where someone else sent a Prog 5 back for the same thing. I grabbed 2 of my Spectors just to make sure that it wasn't an issue on my and and they were dead quiet. Sucks since I really like the bass but for that price point I'm not sure I'll get another one. Thanks!

I received a response from Ola Strandberg. I don't want to muck up your post so you can go to my NBD and see what he said.
