Ive had the same CLF series L-1000, only in the Pharoah Gold Mist, for a couple years now, and it’s an outstanding instrument. I bought it a little bit on a whim- lots of high praise from older players who remembered the vintage ones, and it seemed like a unique modern take on a P Bass, which I was leaning toward at the time.
Man, was it a good decision. It’s like the definition of an excellent quality, elegantly designed, fairly versatile WORKHORSE of a bass. A real Bass Player’s Bass. Amazing neck and fretwork, killer bridge, simple electronics (the CLF knobs are just gorgeous chunkers), and the tone is monstrous.
The American G&L’s are a far better VALUE than Fenders in my opinion. A little more handmade and some extra love and care, and they’re typically a but less expensive for a comparable Fender instrument. Not to mention the mighty MFD pickup is one of the best pickups on the market today.
