NBD: Yamaha BB2025x (Extremely Rare Black and Maple Prototype)

Beautiful bass and for a steal! Congratz man

Thanks!

It definitely was a steal - with my 2 trade in basses (a couple of instruments I had long stopped using), my grand total out-of-pocket was $386.37.

It felt more like the heist of a century than a purchase - maybe I should have blasted the theme from Mission Impossible on the drive home with it.

I'm still amazed how the instrument only showed up on the GC website a day or two (apparently) before I went to GC and how I accidentally stumbled upon it while waiting to leave the store at the check out counter.

It was definitely a whirlwind of good fortune. :)

hmm maybe it's an illusion but it looks like to different types of headstock patterns. The one on the left has mmore of a hook in the cutout.

Now that I'm looking at it closer - I think you're correct. Something's a little different between the headstocks for sure. It looks like the 2025x has a little more mass in general than the 425x. Especially noticeable around the top of the headstock.

The hook of the 425x seems deeper & more pronounced because of the overall smaller dimensions. Also, the tuning gear washers and bushings are larger on the 425x, even though the actual posts on both measure 1/2".

Good eye!

It's too bad you don't live in the Vancouver, BC area, and/or that the seller doesn't have this posted here on TB or elsewhere online (besides Kijiji):

Yamaha bass guitar, 4 strings, barely used | Guitars | Delta/Surrey/Langley | Kijiji

I'm not sure exactly which iteration of the BB it is, but man...$300 Canadian...if it's in good working/playing order, it almost has to be a steal...:woot:
that is a bb414. the strings don't go through the bridge to the back like a 424 does. also the headstock was matching on 414 and natural wood on 424.

You definitely need a white one to complete the trio. The red is nice but a black one and a white one would look so nice together. Ebony and ivory!!

I know, I know, lol. I seriously regret letting the Vintage White one go and keeping the Red. It would have looked so much better with the Black BB2025x, but I had zero idea a BB2025x was gonna be coming along back when that decision was made.

I definitely want this one back, lol.

OOF!!! - I want that one back...and I've never owned it...for the love of the Sweet Baby Murphy, man, what were you THINKING?!?!

Yeah, I'm gonna put that one in the "what was I thinking" bass decision category. :banghead:

Believe me - I still keep an eye out for a Vintage White 425x but if one doesn't show up I may eventually just grab up a 425x and send it off to Pat Wilkins for a refin (if I must).

I...I think I hate the OP...:meh:

:smug:

(But I will LOVE the OP if he gives me first crack at the black n' maple prototype, if he ever goes totally off the rails and decides to sell...:roflmao:)

Took almost a year of watching, waiting, and a couple of "too late" sales before finally finding a BB425x Vintage White - won't be making that mistake again any time soon. Going off the rails aside that is, lol.

I want this bass badly!
last year I found BB2024MX in a good price but I couldn't prepare the cash for it and it was gone! you can see it here below:

Nice find - and in great condition! Sorry to hear this one got away. :(

Thanks for posting the pics - these things are rare & difficult to even find pics of on the 'net.

In fact, this is the first and only Black/Maple 4-string version I've ever seen.

Thank you... yes indeed... Any chance to talk about your bass? I mean any plan for sale?
