NBD - Yamaha BB615 in Pewter (w/upgrades)!!!

That looks amazing. Almost like a copper color. I have not seen a bridge like that before with the b set back like that. Cool bass. More neck and headstock pic needed.

just saw the color is pewter. Looks sweet

The set-back B was to accommodate the distance the B-tuner is to the nut. It caused some models to pull the wrap just slightly higher and around the peg more than it should. By setting the B-String mount back a bit, it keeps the wrong part of the string off the tuning peg, most of the time.

Congrats. I have a couple of these which I picked up during quarantine and I love mine too.

I saw a very similar specimen to this on Reverb a few months back and kick myself for not grabbing it. The stock pre is just fine but I can only imagine that an upgraded pre would take this to the next level.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the kind words - I can't say enough good things about the Delano preamp, it suits the Yamaha BB pickups very well.

Finally found a good combination to capture the metal flake - softer lighting & the Macro setting on my cellphone camera.

I'll never be able to capture the entire bass with the Macro setting, but finally a decent shot of some metal flake. :)

Finally put a family snapshot together - don't know why it never dawned on me before, thanks for the suggestion!

Top to bottom:

BB615 (Pewter)
BB425x (Metallic Red)
BBP35 (Midnight Blue)
BB425x (Vintage White)
BB2025MX (rare maple neck, Black)

You have an amazing collection. Are their any others you would like to obtain? The Michael Anthony with the red pepper inlays would be nice. Also those vintage 80's BB2000's and BB3000/5000 in white are smell the best sounding basses Ive ever heard.
Every time I see a red Yamaha BB I think of Louis Johnson.

On another note, your forum name. Is it in reference to a 69 Corvette Stingray?

Thank You!

I've always appreciated the MA signature series from a distance - not sure if I would ever pick one up, although red peppers are definitely unique. :woot:

I think you nailed it though on the vintage 80's - being a teen in the 80's & listening & being influenced by all that great era of music I think my ears have come to appreciate the Yamaha BB as my perfect epitome of what a bass should sound like. I would love to find any BB2000/BB3000/BB500's, that would be awesome! As far as my username, that's actually a combo of my year of birth & my love of Stingray basses that I used to play before eventually finding my fit with Yamaha basses. Although I did have an uncle who worked as a designer in the Corvette plant down in Bowling Green, KY. and I have an affinity for vettes. Unfortunately, that's about as close to a 69 corvette as I can truthfully claim.

And yes - I love those rare videos of Louis Johnson tearing it up on that red custom Yamaha of his! :bassist:

I wonder if the powers that be would allow you to switch your forum name to BB69? :smug:

I love me some 70's Jazz basses, the original 70's/80's 2Band StingRays, and original 80's Yamaha BB's. These are the bas sounds I grew up on. (Born in 70.). Only problem is I find those original Stingrays and BB's to be too heavy and the necks and bodies uncomfortable for me to play. Im glad these basses work for you. :bassist: I look forward to seeing some vintage examples in your collection.

That would be a more suitable username, lol.

I love 70's jazz's too - I much prefer the growly 70's pup position over the more polite 60's position myself. Truth be told, I would prefer lighter weights on the BB's - but so far, so good with gigging them for extended periods.

I've always wanted to give one of these models a try but they are long discontinued and while they are not super uncommon, they don't really pop up every day.

Sweet looking bass! Congrats on finding it. Now I'll have to see if the Sonar-3 will fit into MY bass.

You mentioned in one of your later responses here, that you found a site that you plugged in the serial number and it gave you the year of manufacture. Could you post that link here? I have been trying to gain some history on my BN-514, which also has been out of production for some time.
Thanks, Much appreciated.

For some reason, I was having difficulty attaching the hyperlink here in the thread.

I've sent you a PM with a link to the website/database.

I hope the database turns up some useful info on your BN-514!

Best of luck!

I recently traded a 2020 Fender Squier 70's CV Precision (Indonesia) for this 2010 (?) Yamaha BB615 (Taiwan) and I'm so surprised with the quality of this bass that I don't regret 1 second, previous owner didnt play it so much because its in a very good condition. Actually the preamp is not the best, but it can always be changed. What a fantastic bass! Congratulations!

Congrats on your Yamaha BB615 as well! Looks nearly mint condition.

I'm incredibly impress with mine as well - it's a great addition to my Yamaha BB family. It play and sounds like a classic Yamaha BB bass, but the versatility the preamp & EQ bring makes it incredibly versatile!
