The model label on the back of the headstock is long gone - would be nice if Yamaha used a more permanent method for the model number.

Even the new line of BBs just have stickers on the back.

This is a BBN4F; I’ve owned 2.

They have a nice midrange voice that makes for great fretless basses - although I installed a set of DiMarzio Model J in mine to make it noise free and even stronger in the mids.

Funny you should mention DiMarzio pickups. My pandemic bass build was a solid walnut PJ with DiMarzio Split P / Ultra J. I'm thinking of switching to noiseless pickups in this bass but will live with it for a while before deciding. Gotta get new flats on it first.

Thanks groovaholic. I just found a decent deal on a used DiMarzio Ultra J set for this bass. Did you change the pots as well? I have some new CTS pots I could use to completely upgrade the controls and maybe play with the tone cap value.

I don’t think I did - just swapped out the pickups.

But if I found another one I probably would swap out the pots too…
